As awful as current election behavior can be, at least we have dispensed with throwing cats!! #ThePickwickPapers

Bette My cats vote against being thrown...or they will when they wake up. 😂🐱❤️ 7y

On the other hand, the Victorians really did get some stuff right. Why oh why did we ever 86 the muffin man??? 👅 #FootnoteGeek #ThePickwickPapers

saresmoore Right?! I experienced this same lament recently. It's tragic, really. 7y
Ericmanciniwriter Let's update this - I'd be VERY interested in a donut man walking through a farmer's market ringing his bell @saresmoore 7y
saresmoore @Eamann Yes and amen. 7y
KVanRead @saresmoore @Eamann Yaaaassss! That is so hipster San Francisco I can't believe it hasn't happened yet! I also see a good Portlandia skit in there... involving the Mayor and possibly Spike on his bicycle.😂 7y
saresmoore @KVanRead Bahahaha! That's pitch-worthy. I love Portlandia! 7y

#ThePickwickPapers influence is further reaching than I realized...this sounds so much like Charles Smithson, the fossil collecting hobby archaeologist in John Fowles post-modern gem The French Lieutenant's Woman. #footnotegeek

Robert Seymour, the illustrator who got #ThePickwickPapers ball rolling with his idea for The Nimrod Club. But once the publisher proposed Dickens write the accompanying copy CD grabbed that ball and spun it around: now the pictures needed to go with his new and improved version. Shortly thereafter poor Seymour, who had a history of mental breakdown, set himself on fire and shot himself in the heart.

saresmoore Good grief! That seems like literal overkill! 7y
KVanRead @saresmoore I know, right? So crazy and sad. And then his family tried to claim he had written the book even though he died after only the first 2 installments. 7y
saresmoore @KVanRead That's crazy! Greedy jerks... (I edited that to be less rude.) (edited) 7y

#ThePickwickPapers ...astounding to learn the greatest publishing sensation of the 19th C. (so great it led to printing innovations to keep pace with demand) was initially to be called The Nimrod Club!😂😂😂 But then again a popular book at the time was Jorrocks' Jaunts and Jollities, so maybe not that weird after all?
