Very cute book about the importance of having a teacher. Delightful illustrations and it would make a great gift to any teacher.

“And that,” Mr. Beckett says, leaning against the edge of his desk in third-period AP English, ankles crossed and dark eyes shining, “is the story of how Hemingway and Fitzgerald became the most famous literary frenemies of the twentieth century. Full disclosure, it probably won‘t be that useful to you on the AP exam, since for some reason they don‘t test your knowledge of hundred-year-old publishing gossip.

Disturbing & brilliant. At once a portrait of a whole NJ community & a well-crafted look at sexual abuse to rival Lolita. Really! Gave me a bad dream but hypnotic prose by one of the best American writers. #triggerwarning

A solid haul including three signed titles (one I brought from home), an ARC, and the fancy sprayed edges version of Katabasis, 💪🏻

It's hard to know how I feel about this. It's incredibly hard to read and sometimes made me feel sick. But I also feel like Oates intended that reaction so you'd agree with her ending.

This is very hard to read. Very unsettling. Oates has always been one for unsettling truths and she doesn't pull punches here.

My first Oates. I did not expect to be reading what I‘m reading right now. Are her books always so creepy? The sinister undercurrent of this teacher who seeks out 12-year-olds to seduce is pretty overwhelming. At 87 years of age, she sure can still write.
