Finishing off both March & my #Booked2021 #Winter quarter with the tagged book as my #BakedGoodsOnCover If you look closely, there‘s a plate of bikkies on her table, so that counts right?☺️ A reread of an Aussie favourite. #Pop21 #PickYourPoison #ReadItAgainSam #HistoricalFiction #AussieAuthor21 #CozyMysteriesChallenge #CloakDaggerChal #Pageathon #BookishBingo #PennyPerPage #250c

Bk8 of March & Bk4 of #MarvellousMarch is done! What a fantastic end to The Wayfarers series, though so sad to see it‘s end. Loved getting to know Pei more & to learn about the different species that inhabit these books. Highly recommend, but start from the beginning⭐️ #Booked2021 #SFByAWoman #SeriesRead2021 #StackingTheSeries #Pop21 #PickYourPoison #SpaceTimeReads #NerdReading2021 #FinishingTheSeries2021 #Pageathon #BookspinBingo #PennyPerPage

Parable of the Sower | Octavia E. Butler

Pickpick

In a near future America has collapsed into a state of anarchy with danger everywhere. Lauren Olamina is a young girl leading a group of people across California, meanwhile inventing a new religion, Earthseed. It‘s an unpopular opinion but I didn‘t like this book as others seem to. It reminded me of The Stand, The Road and Station Eleven, and didn‘t stood out amongst them. Between a pick and a so-so.

Megabooks I also picked Butler for my afrofuturism and finished it yesterday. 👯‍♀️ 4y
Kalalalatja Too bad it didn‘t measure up to the others, but I‘m loving the cozyness of your pic 🙌 4y

TrishB Great pic 👍🏻 not read book though! 4y
BarbaraBB @Megabooks I saw it! So cool. I liked Kindred too. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Love the bright pic for a dark book. I haven‘t read the other books you mentioned (although I want to). So, maybe that‘s why I liked Parable so much. I‘m a big Butler fan! 4y
BarbaraBB @BarbaraTheBibliophage I thought so too, that if I had read it before those others, I would have enjoyed it better. 4y
QuintusMarcus I‘m with you- I didn‘t love the book, but the focus on empathy is incredibly appropriate for our current era. Weirdly prescient, but that‘s what science fiction is all about. 4y
Vansa I loved this book! I found it very insightful about the way radical extremist groups can drum up political support, and quite realistic about how life would be on the road, and living off the land- things that are completely ignored in Station Eleven. Also a female protagonist in science fiction?! That alone makes it a standout! 4y
BarbaraBB @QuintusMarcus That is so true! 4y
BarbaraBB @Vansa I wasn‘t a fan of Station Eleven either. And you‘re right about the protagonist. Lauren is a wonderful character, tough and empathetic. Have you read the sequel? 4y
QuintusMarcus @Vansa Great points - I think I need to re-read the book in light of current events. I read the book a few years ago, and my thinking has certainly changed since then! 4y
