Robin Hobb is easily one of my favourite authors, and I'm in awe of how she weaves her magic with all the books I've read so far.

But. She's not exactly gentle with her characters. 😖

Kalalalatja Hah! I hadn't even thought about that myself, it was a coincidence 😄 and I see your point. It is an awful lot she puts them through, but somehow they emerge stronger. But it wouldn't hurt her to give them a bit of a break sometimes 👍 7y

(I say this with full knowledge that Hobb is perfectly capable - and inclined - to wrench my heart out in the first three chapters. Sigh.)
