Wonderful book 🥰 A quick, funny read with many good quotes. A heartwarming story about animals. I like the way it describes human emotions and nature in the perceptive of a Gorilla. It will be a good book to read with kids. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Read this for #readwithmrbook July prompt #narratedbyanimal

I am not sure what to read for August prompt. To have people leave you alone?? Suggestions please ...

Sharpeipup I just read this last night! 4y

A Wolf Called Wander | Rosanne Parry

Pickpick

I generally don't like books with animal narrators so I picked one that is aimed at middle graders and it was excellent. It's based on real wolf who traveled 1000 miles through Oregon and finally found a mate. It delivers a whole range of emotions from joy to sadness, but ultimately it's a story of perseverance. #ReadWithMrBook #NarratedbyAnimal @MrBook

ImperfectCJ I'm also hesitant about animal narrators, but I loved this one. 4y

Flush: A Biography | Virginia Woolf

#ReadWithMrBook #NarratedByAnimal

What a lovely book (that I didn‘t even know existed!) about a Spaniel named Flush, and the trials and tribulations of his life spent with, first, Elizabeth Barrett [Browning], and then with both she and her husband, Robert Browning. I found myself sympathizing rather too much with Flush‘s (sometimes) sadness, so evocative is the writing of Woolf. When Flush is taken from his country life with Miss Mitford and ⬇️

This Flush happily does, as soon as he learns a few ground rules. But when Mr Browning comes a-calling, Flush‘s jealousy causes him to revert back to some of his earlier, more feral ways. Extreme events later on cause everyone to settle down together; Flush eventually lives his life in ⬇️ 4y
gradcat ⬆️ (cont) bliss with both Elizabeth and Robert, happier and wiser in his later life in Italy, and on the final return trip to England. Woolf cobbled this story together after reading two poems of Barrett Browning‘s written in homage to her dog, Flush, and by sourcing some of her own dog‘s antics to fatten this “biography of a dog.” 👩🏻‍🎓🐱♥️ 4y
gradcat @MrBook It only occurred to me just now, when I checked on the proper wording of your prompt for July, that I may have not followed the prompt exactly as it‘s meant to be done. This book is a biography of a dog, and while it is written from his point of view, there is actually an omniscient narrator. As it is too late now to read another book, I‘ll leave it to you to judge whether it‘s worthy of your intentions when you listed the prompt. Oops!😔 (edited) 4y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ So I had never read this classic before. I‘m really glad I finally got the chance. I didn‘t think I was going to like it but I was pleasantly surprised. It is obviously about Stalinism, but I found striking resemblances to some situations going on in our country. Still an extremely relevant book. And it has a very striking ending. I read this for the August #readwithmrbook prompt #narratedbyanimal

AllisonM89 I didn't realize you hadnt read this one! Its odd, but definitely a good one. "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." 4y
mollyrotondo @AllisonM89 yeah I never had to read it in school and so I never picked it up. I read 1984 but that was it by Orwell. Those commandments “evolving” (more like devolving) was brilliantly terrifying. 4y
AllisonM89 @mollyrotondo i actually voluntarily read this in high school. Non-required reading lol 4y

mollyrotondo @AllisonM89 I would have probably hated it in high school. My adult brain is better able to handle politics lol 4y
AllisonM89 @mollyrotondo see, I've gotten worse about politics - i hate it all lol 4y
Birdsong28 I also read this for this prompt for this challenge. 📚📖 4y

This was a thoughtful, delightful read - with Enzo the dog reminding us to never give up, savor the moment. Let go of what brings you down and enjoy life. The last bit will have you crying, even if you‘re not a dog lover.

I‘m not sure I understand this book. It‘s the story of a mother and her son, born in #Kosovo, fled to Finland, thinking of Kosovo. What they share is her husband, his father and his impact on their lives. It‘s a story about outcasts, about not belonging, about suffering and abandonment. And of course there are a cat (a racist boyfriend) and a boa constrictorp. Does it sound confusing? It is!

#bookreport & #weeklyforecast

- Not a bad week... Some moving James Baldwin, a sad short story and a very British rom-com of sorts ( i.e. less romance, more friendship and community which felt good right now!)

- Just started Lily & the Octopus and I don‘t need a 🔮to see some #uglycrying in my future! 😭 I love how Lily seems to YELL! EVERYTHING! EXCITEDLY!

- Hoping for ‘Exciting Times‘ to bring the Sally Rooney vibes I‘m looking for.... 🤞

BarbaraBB Lily sounds great! 4y

A sweet story of a search-and-rescue dog named Ellie. The story follows how she was trained when she was a puppy till her retirement. Throughout her career with the police force, she went on many missions, & adopted by different dog handlers. Ellie realised not only missing persons or injured victims need rescuing, sometimes her handlers also need saving. Some great topics for discussions for middle grade readers.
