I have had this book on my tbr since reading Gone Girl and seeing that the author has lived in many places that I, too, have lived. Today, I looked at my Libby for audios-available-now and decided this title works for this time of year. 🗡️🎃👻🔪

Unpopular opinion… I didn‘t love this book as much as everyone else did… I found myself really enjoying parts of it and then finding other parts absolutely ridiculous and for that reason it is a soft pick for me! I will be interested to see what my book club ladies think of it!

4.5/5 - almost too many twists and turns…to the point of slight confusion. but that is probably a “me” problem. very good writing, great mysteries and well developed characters.

Stoner‘s life is a quiet one, but it‘s full of inner turmoil. An unhappy marriage, a contentious colleague, a moral dilemma, etc. It reminded me of Jayber Crow. The writing is so raw & relatable, you can't help but see yourself in Stoner's small struggles. And that's the brilliance of this book. It captures the inevitability of life. It's repetition, disappointments & joys. No matter what you face, there are shared experiences that connect us.

I loved this book, with flavor of “Our Town”. This is the story of Elmwood Springs, Missouri, from its foundation as a dream of its founder to its near death in present times. The characters are loveable, even in the hereafter. I couldn‘t stay away from the book.

Finishing up my vacation reads then tagged August #bookspin is next!
