I have had this book on my tbr since reading Gone Girl and seeing that the author has lived in many places that I, too, have lived. Today, I looked at my Libby for audios-available-now and decided this title works for this time of year. 🗡️🎃👻🔪

Unpopular opinion… I didn‘t love this book as much as everyone else did… I found myself really enjoying parts of it and then finding other parts absolutely ridiculous and for that reason it is a soft pick for me! I will be interested to see what my book club ladies think of it!

mcctrish I have this to read, maybe November will make it happen 3d

4.5/5 - almost too many twists and turns…to the point of slight confusion. but that is probably a “me” problem. very good writing, great mysteries and well developed characters.

Pickpick

Stoner‘s life is a quiet one, but it‘s full of inner turmoil. An unhappy marriage, a contentious colleague, a moral dilemma, etc. It reminded me of Jayber Crow. The writing is so raw & relatable, you can't help but see yourself in Stoner's small struggles. And that's the brilliance of this book. It captures the inevitability of life. It's repetition, disappointments & joys. No matter what you face, there are shared experiences that connect us.

AvidReader25 “You must remember what you are and what you have chosen to become, and the significance of what you are doing. There are wars and defeats and victories of the human race that are not military and that are not recorded in the annals of history. Remember that while you're trying to decide what to do.” 2mo
Tamra My favorite novel of all time. I‘ve only read it once because I‘m afraid to break the spell. 2mo
Tamra @AvidReader25 terrific quote that sums up the message. 2mo

DrSabrinaMoldenReads @Tamra I‘m like that too about many books. I don‘t do many rereads of books I have loved. 2mo
AvidReader25 @Tamra @DrSabrinaMoldenReads Sometimes a book is just so perfect on the first read that you don‘t want to risk it! I could see this one becoming richer with time though. 2mo
BkClubCare I am glad to have read this one. ✅ 3w
AvidReader25 @BkClubCare same. I couldn‘t believe how many people have listed it as their favorite novel ever! It tends to fly under the radar. 3w

I loved this book, with flavor of “Our Town”. This is the story of Elmwood Springs, Missouri, from its foundation as a dream of its founder to its near death in present times. The characters are loveable, even in the hereafter. I couldn‘t stay away from the book.

sherrisilvera @mrp27 Nope. Didn't make it to bookshop. Their limited hours didn't mesh with plans. 2mo
