Really intriguing: not what I expected but multiple themes, in looking at the contents of a sack given from a mother to her enslaved child daughter, and then passed down through generations. The book reflects on each of the contents (a dress, pecans, a lock of hair) and how they fit into the context of history, the nature of enslavement, the family‘s history, and how such articles are preserved and controlled.

An excellent reflection of life with an eating disorder. But it‘s also much more. For example, Kazdin investigates aspects of the weight loss industry. She also dives into common emotions most women feel about their bodies. It‘s a multi-faceted and thought-provoking book.

I think it fits this book well as it dives to medical issues that haven‘t been researched in women 🙄, doctors and health care systems that ignore women‘s pain & complaints, and sexual harassment removing job opportunities, etc, etc… I think we‘ve all “had it up to here”
