Funny #audiobook with great narration! College student Aviva becomes involved with a married congressman and her meddling mom will do anything to stop it. After it becomes public, Aviva moves to a small Maine town and changes her name to Jane. Her precocious daughter suddenly becomes curious about her missing father. I loved the creative style - using emails and a choose your own adventure parody. Fun from start to finish! #AudioMountTBR

EvieBee You‘re a great book pusher. I love your backlist recommendations! Always available on Libby 🤓🤓 3y
KathyWheeler I read this awhile ago and really enjoyed it. 3y
MallenNC I remember really liking this one too. I bet it is great on audio. 3y

Megabooks @KathyWheeler it was enjoyable for sure. 3y
Megabooks @MallenNC it really worked well on audio. I‘m glad you liked it! 3y
Cinfhen I LOVED this in print!!! Such a great story!! Works for #Booked21 #JewishMC (edited) 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen yes! I‘ve read a lot of #JewishLit this year and really enjoyed it! I think I used this one for that prompt. 3y
Cinfhen Excellent choice!!!! 3y
Reggie I really liked this book. I thought of it recently because I watched an interview with Monica Lewinsky and John Oliver where she was talking about how she almost changed her name but decided not to because Bill Clinton never probably ever thought HE would have to change his name. 3y
Megabooks @Reggie 🙌🏻🙌🏻 the older I get, the more I appreciate Monica. She‘s one tough lady. I‘ll have to look for that interview. Was it on his hbo show? I just signed up for hbo again. (edited) 3y
Chelsea.Poole I‘ve had this tbr for sometime. Glad to see an endorsement from my #booktwin! This book makes me think of my great aunt who read it and loved it. She was a fabulous reader but is sadly no longer with us. 3y
Megabooks @Chelsea.Poole I‘m sorry you lost your aunt. 💜 I hope you enjoy the book like she and I did! 3y

Two women working at the Worlds Fair in New York 1939 - one an aspiring actress, one an aspiring journalist - the story is told in a way that highlights the important themes (friendship, women struggling to find their voice/rights) in a way that feels as real as a fiction can feel - I enjoyed this #LitsyBookClub
It also is #JewishMC for #Booked2021
reached my #20in4 goal (book finished) thx @Andrew65 for hosting

Andrew65 Fantastic 👏👏👏🙌🙌🍾🥂🍾🥂🥳🎉😊 4y

Portnoy's Complaint | Philip Roth

Mehso-so

I have been trying to figure out how to review this, because I feel torn. On the one hand, it is a story about a white, privileged man, who COMPLAINS A LOT! But on the other hand it was... quite funny. I can definitely see how this was pretty out there for the times, and I like the irony of Portnoy. But I‘m not sure it really stands the test of time (so many racial slurs), and I was ready for it to be over when I finished.

BarbaraBB Well balanced review. It made me laugh a lot but it certainly isn‘t a correct book anymore. And I‘m glad your placemat is back 😀 4y
Cinfhen Hahaha @BarbaraTheBibliophage I love the placemat comment ♥️♥️♥️I agree, that placemat is super photogenic 🥰And wonderful review, Katja. I haven‘t read Roth, but I trust your instincts 4y

MicheleinPhilly I love Roth‘s writing (for the most part) but found this to be a slog and a half. “Whiny man whines. A LOT.” 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen Think you meant to tag @BarbaraBB on the placemat comment! 🤪 4y
Cinfhen I did @BarbaraTheBibliophage but heyyyyyyy girlfriend xxx hope you‘re having a lovely Sunday xxx 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen **waves** yes we are! 💕💕 4y
Kalalalatja @BarbaraBB @Cinfhen it is actually a pouf (if that is the correct spelling??), but I just love the way the pattern looks with certain books 😄 4y
Kalalalatja @MicheleinPhilly soooo whiny! And I hate the stereotype of everything being the mother‘s fault. It felt too freudian, and I have never been a big fan of Freud, so my eyes rolled a lot... 🙄 4y
BarbaraBB Oh of course, it‘s a pouf! I remember having seen it in your room on other pictures! 4y
Cinfhen What‘s a pouf @BarbaraBB @Kalalalatja ??? 4y
BarbaraBB A round kind of pillow to sit on... do you know what I mean? 4y

Lot Six: A Memoir | David Adjmi

I totally get why my brother recommended this memoir to me... it‘s a throwback to the early 1980‘s Jewish community in Brooklyn. With references to Dallas, Ton Sur Ton clothing,Against All Odds and Wham, I‘m having major nostalgia. I‘m also thinking of a classmate named LeaAnne Lavender (yup, that really was her name) who was my direct link to Flatbush & Deal, NJ. If you‘re looking for a #JewishMC #Booked2021 this one is 😍

squirrelbrain Sounds great - stacked. 4y
emilyhaldi I wanna know more about LeaAnne Lavender 💜 4y
Cinfhen Hahaha...whatever image the name conjures @emilyhaldi is pretty much all you need to know 😉 I need to find my HS yearbook....photos would be epic 😊 it‘s really bringing out my inner 80‘s girl @squirrelbrain 🥰 4y

Reviewsbylola Lol our cousin went to school in the 1980s with a girl whose first name was Cigarette. 😬😅 4y
Cinfhen Oh God...that‘s bad!!!! @Reviewsbylola 😐 4y
Reviewsbylola She‘s embraced it apparently. Even now, on FB, she goes by Cigarette. 😦 4y
