I loved this book. It is written so well. I've never read a book written this way before.
Points of view of two sisters who are grieving after losing their mother. It is very sad.

This was my #WrittenInVerse choice for #Booked2021 and it was awesome, especially read by the author on audio. I followed along on my kindle, but listening to Reynolds read made me feel like I was getting it how it was intended.

An audiobook that is short in length but packed with emotion. I usually avoid books #writteninverse but so enjoyed this one. Acevado writes such strong characters and I felt so much for Xiomora as she discovers her voice and explores the tumult of emotions she feels growing into herself and finding her way within her family, her first relationship; and her world.

So, I‘m not going to rate this because epic poetry is not my thing and this translated tale of star-crossed lovers could not change that. It‘s my pick for the bridge country #azerbaijan for #readingasia2021 and #writteninverse for #booked2021.

Kwame Alexander wrote short, rhythmic poems about three major Black experiences: the killing of George Floyd, Colin Kaepernick taking a knee for the national anthem, and the election of Barack Obama. The #audiobook is brief but moving, and there‘s definitely a lot to be gained by listening! (In fact, I may try to do poetry more often on audio in general.)
