Burning Angel | James Lee Burke

Pickpick

8th in the dave robicheaux series finds our hero thrown into a series of incidents connected to a piece of land which lots of dodgy characters including mafia and old money want to get their hands on. Dave partner clete are on the warpath as they are also under threat. At times a bit confusing and cliches running wild so while not my favourite of the series these books are always good reads.

Pickpick

I'm on a series roll at the moment and dave robicheaux is one of my favourites, inevitably a tough guy but with a vulnerable heart of gold. In bk 7 he is up against a particularly nasty villain (i love a brilliantly drawn bad guy) with extreme nazi sympathies. James Lee burke is a mastercraftsman who writes great prose whilst thrilling the reader and evoking the louisiana landscape. Anyone who says crime novels do not have literary joys shd rd him

Mehso-so

Hack Holland is a product of the South. Hard drinking ex POW and wealthy, progressive Democrat. His candidacy for a congressional seat brings him into conflict with those around him, his involvement with a violent civil rights conflict forces him to reassess his future and his past. Not James Lee Burke's best book but Burke is an excellent writer. I need to read his Dave Robicheaux series. Read for my Century of Mystery Novels. Published 1971
