With a calm, flowing text, this #PictureBook bio looks at Edward Hopper and his somewhat slow rise to fame in the art world. I really like the illustrations complementing Hopper‘s actual works as the text describes Hopper‘s life and feelings. Bio and bibliography at the end provide more in-depth info on Hopper and his works. #BBRC #LetterE
My son bought the book/catalog that accompanied the Whitney‘s exhibit we saw last weekend in NYC. Although it is no stand in for the exhibit itself, the book is a lovely reminder of paintings, drawings, sketches we saw. I love love his use of bold, contrasting colors.
#MagnificentMarch #AboutAnArtist I know some of you are sheltered in place with a houseful, some alone.Hopper could paint a lone figure & make him or her so intriguing. Are they lonely? Are they waiting for a loved one to return? Are they leading a solitary existence? A story in every painting.I know there is a longing in all of us for things to be normal again, a night out, a trip to the bookstore. So glad Littens make this a oasis of positivity.🌹
One of my favorite artists. I got to see Nighthawks at the Art Institute of Chicago a few years ago. Beautiful.

Great little book by a great poet about a handful of Hopper's paintings. No complicated art criticism or theory -- just brief essays about the visual language of the pictures. Strand and Hopper are a perfect pair.
