This is the first Sparks & Bainbridge mystery that I‘ve read, so I was playing catch-up with the characters. That aside, it was a very enjoyable read. Set in postwar London, the titular characters are trying tie a new crime to an old series of robberies. The plot is pleasingly complicated, the history well drawn and the characters are interesting. The only bad news is that I now have a new back list to read, but I‘m looking forward to them.
Kat's friend Joanna's husband, Sam, is suspected of embezzling from the bank where he works. Kat swings into action with her friends to prove Sam's innocence.
The real embezzler was fairly obvious almost from the start but the mystery of Dan's origins gets deeper. And we definitely need more of an epilogue - it's not clear whether Sam was reinstated.
A woman's body is found in the Thames and she appears to be mixed up in a German spy ring. Major Ramsey is forced to call on Ellie's expertise when her uncle is unavailable. This is a decent historical mystery/espionage novel. I do still really love Ellie, her family, and Major Ramsey. However, the love triangle subtext is annoying. I'll keep going with the series, but I hope this nonsense of Felix vs Major Ramsey gets settled in book 3.
I read a lot in July, I started the Lumberjanes GNs that month. I love the Lady Sherlock series, so the tagged wins out for the month. #12booksof2024 @Andrew65

Book 3 of the Saffron Everleigh series, my third & final #Roll100 book for December & probably my last finished book of 2024 since it‘s 10:30 PM. I struggled a bit with this one & all the characters, but I really enjoy Saffron, her roommate & her colleague/love interest. The science & the 1920s London setting are great too. I find I really enjoy historical mysteries, ⬇️

Doing some breakfast & coffeeshop reading before running errands on this NYE day. Tonight I‘ll be shutting myself in the house away from fireworks smoke as all good asthmatics with a sinus thing should do. 😷😮💨🤧😉
I‘m starting this one, my third #Roll100 pick but doubt I‘ll get it done before tomorrow.
