Wedding bells, a grisly murder, and a defecting Russian spy bring drama to King's Cove in the newest Lane Winslow mystery, a series that theGlobe and Mail calls "terrific." A wedding is on the horizon for Lane Winslow and Inspector Darling. As one of the few Russian speakers in her community, Lane is obliged to act as translator and hostess for Countess Orlova, an elderly Russian woman who has tracked her missing brother to the Nelson area. Nelson PD investigates, but then the murder of a lone hunter in the hills above King's Cove takes top priority. Darling works the case with a Constable Oxley--a newcomer to the area, assigned in Constable Ames' temporary absence--and a British agent contacts Lane to warn her to be on the lookout for a fleeing Russian defector. Bound by the Wartime Secrets Act, Lane is conflicted about keeping the information from Darling, especially when it begins to put a strain on their relationship. Fans of Maisie Dobbs and the Kopp Sisters will delight in this rousing adventure of intrigue and espionage.

Lane & Ins.Darling are planning their wedding when an elderly Russian lady appears searching for her brother. Lane, who speaks Russian, invites her to stay in her home While Darling & new constable initiate a search for her brother, a hunter is found murdered. although LaneLaney desperately wants to escape her past,it rears its head again when she‘s contacted by a British agent to alert her that a Russian spy is headed to Canada. #serieslove2025 ⬇️

kspenmoll ⬆️This is the author at her best-intriguing plot line that kept me guessing, historical background fascinating, each main character growing more into new roles: Darling & Lane as husband & wife, Darling & a new constable(he is becoming suspicious about),Darling‘s deepening appreciation of Ames, who is away on an Ins. training course, & Ames & his maturing ideas about what he wants in a spouse. 4d

Number 6 in the Lane Winslow historical mystery series is every bit as wonderful as its predecessors I‘m happy to say. As Lane and Inspector Darling begin wedding preparations, they are pulled into a murder case and a possible Russian spy defection. And unfortunately, Lane is forced to temporarily re-connect with the secret agency from the war that she has been trying to distance herself from.
One of the things that I love about this series 🔻

robinb (and there are several), is that the storylines are plotted so well. They are surprisingly plausible, interesting to consider and even though at times, a bit hard to follow, are not convoluted enough to be frustrating. The characters (both main and secondary) and humor are added bonuses (as are the scenic details of King‘s Cove, the featured small village in British Columbia).
Looking forward to the next one on my 🔻

This is the 6th book in the Lane Winslow series. This one seemed a bit less mysterious. Maybe because Lane didn‘t do much detecting. But her and Darling are getting married! Yay!

So it‘s her planning the wedding, having an unexpected house guest and a lot of different perspectives in this one.

Jaimelire @Penny_LiteraryHoarders I am glad she is still writing them. My brother used to live in Nelson, so when I read the books I see that beautiful place in my mind. I have to go back soon! (edited) 5y
