I love the film so much I decided to read the book! The film was a very faithful adaptation as the book is so incredibly detailed, they got in all that they could. The prose is beautiful and devastating. I most enjoyed the ending as it provided greater details about what became of Bryony‘s life but also the struggles she faces in getting her story out and the lives Marshall and Lola were still living, adding to the devastation and inequity.

Another winner by Jeff Zentner. This is the story of Carver Briggs, a high school senior whose three best friends die in a car accident for which he feels responsible. He also struggles with massive guilt as he becomes closer to the girlfriend of one of those friends. A beautiful, heart-breaking book. My first 5⭐️ of 2025.

Carver Briggs sent a text message to his friend Mars while he was driving. When Mars tries to respond, all 3 of Carver‘s pals perish in a horrifying car crash. The guilt and despair is relentless, but magnifies when a judge/father of Mars wants to open a negligence case to indict Carver. Very well written

A a lot of people told me to read this book and so i obliged. I regretted it. I found the characters to be shallow and the story line to be slow paced and boring. The first half of the book felt similar to reading Jane Austen. It dragged on during parts two and three and I finished it but felt as if my time could have been spent reading something else. I know it‘s a favorite here, but that‘s my two cents.

I‘m sure there are several books on my shelf that I could use for this prompt, but this is the first one I thought of. Noah was recently paralyzed in a car crash that also killed his father, so there are some serious topics in this book. I also loved the Missouri setting and St. Louis Cardinals references.

Karisimo Ooh! I‘m a huge Cards fan! I can‘t believe I haven‘t read this! 6mo
Coffeymuse You sold me on the Cardinals reference-that's my baseball team! Definitely adding this to Mt TBR! 6mo
Daisey @Karisimo @Coffeymuse I teach JH in Missouri, so each year I look up the Truman award preliminary nominee list and try to read as many as possible. It often includes a book or two with a Missouri connection. That‘s how I found this one. 6mo
Coffeymuse @Daisey I grew up in MO and now live in OK. OK was the Sequoyah Book Awards. Definitely going to check out the Truman Awards! 6mo

A compelling story between class and culture, marriage and all other human relationships. The people immigrating illegally who live in shadows and those who can be coerced into propositions they would have never imagined. The setting is Israel and I learned a lot about the people and culture there. A surprising journey and a great read.
