A very sweet, very short story. Free from audible qnd kindle. My first read of this author. She writes beautifully! I will definitely try one of her full novels! Any suggestions where to start?

Librarybelle I had not seen this short story - I may have to check it out! 2y
Cinfhen I prefer Hoffman‘s HF as opposed to her magical realism books. A few that I read & loved were Marriage of Opposites, Dovekeepers & 2y
Bluebird @Librarybelle you should! The audiobook is just one hour! 2y
Bluebird @Cinfhen thanks! I will check those out! 2y

Also #classicpre1900 for #naturalitsybingo2023 @AllDebooks - I didn't fancy reading Darwin (after Wilson's biography of him), & Daisy quotes from Pliny the Elder's Natural Histories, so I'm counting it!

Cinfhen At least it works for some prompts!! 2y

This series, at least for me, just seems to keep getting better and better. What starts as one potential crime leads to a murder that Brunetti has to solve. As with the others in the series, darker subject matters and IRL issues are presented. Leon‘s turns of phrases are at times poetic and descriptive and at other times biting and sarcastic. On to the next!

Bluebird I‘ve had this series in my queue for a few years. It sounds great! I hope to start it soon—i‘m just trying to read deeper into my ongoing series before starting new ones. 🥺 2y
Librarybelle @Bluebird Totally understand that! I have so many series going, it‘s ridiculous! 2y
Cinfhen Great review!! Do you think my 80 year old dad would like this series?? He‘s become a real reader in the past few years and he‘s constantly asking me for suggestions…Unfortunately he likes James Patterson, Brad Meltzer, Lee Child and David Baldacci so I‘m out of my reading comfort zone 😜 2y

Librarybelle @Cinfhen He might! I think Donna Leon is a deeper writer than Patterson, if that makes sense…there‘s more layers to the writing than the quick reads from the authors he likes. That being said, it took me several books into the series for everything to click for me - I really appreciate her approach right now. And, it‘s in Venice, so very European. 2y
Librarybelle @Cinfhen Has he tried Stuart Woods? I‘m not a fan, but he‘s an author similar to Patterson and Baldacci…short chapters, cliffhangers at the end of each chapter, fast reads. 2y
Cinfhen Ha! I think you nailed the type of reader my dad is….I‘ll suggest Stuart Woods! Thanks so much, Jess xxx 2y

What a fascinating if not very pleasant read. The description of Elena‘s illness were so well done and although both Elena and Rita were unlikeable characters, you really felt for them both - heartbreaking, really.

And then the wonder of why Elena was so desperate to make the difficult trip across town to find Isabel, changing the narrative entirely towards the end.

I‘m going for all of the prompts on this one ⬇️

rmaclean4 You are right, not an easy read but so well done. I am so glad I read this. Almost made my top of 2022. 2y
Tamra The end was a revelation! So well tied into the theme of women‘s autonomy (lack thereof). 2y
Ruthiella I love how you hit so many prompts! I might just have to borrow one. I admire writers who write unlikable characters in a compelling way. 2y
BookwormM Loved this book so well done 2y
