Pickpick

I found this to be both an interesting and tough read. With some of the material covered, I had at least a vague awareness of. With others, I was able to learn a good amount. I can't say I agree with every single point in the book, but I did find it very educational and thought-provoking.

Pickpick

Very interesting book about the emerging markets, technologies and economies that will shape the next century. Very simple, well written and easy to follow.

#12Booksof2024 February

Choosing a book didn‘t get any easier for February, but since I highlighted a fiction book in January I thought I should highlight a nonfiction in February

Other honorable mentions are: Christmas at the Beach Hut by Veronica Henry, The Swifts by Beth Lincoln and The Strangeworld Travel Agency by L. D. Lapinski

Andrew65 Poverty is something we shouldn‘t need to discuss in the mid 21st century but is a growing problem due to the greed of corporations. (edited) 2w
AnneCecilie @Andrew65 I couldn‘t agree with you more. This book looks at the mechanisms that keep people poor 2w
Andrew65 @AnneCecilie That greed seems to get worse by the year! 2w

Mehso-so

I really like Bernie. I feel like he is one of the few politicians who care. And this is a fine enough book, but I wouldn‘t call it “a progressive takedown of the uber-capitalist status quo.” I would call it his ‘presidential campaigns in book form‘.

Of course there is plenty to glean from him, and it certainly raises my sense of a call to action. But ultimately I was hoping more for Bernie the Philosopher instead of Bernie the Politician.

#AuldLangSpine #2024

💙 I read 8 off this fantastic list from @Christine this year and have a few more on my TBR. My favorite Fiction was All the Sinners Bleed and nonfiction Finding Me but all 8 were excellent.

And as inspired by @Amiable my favorites from past years:

2020. @Jerdencon We Were the Lucky Ones
2021 MadDashReading The Glass Hotel
2022 @thewallflower0707 The Book of Longings (F) & All the Young Men (NF)
2023 @Amiable ⬇️

Deblovestoread Count the Ways (F) & The Family Roe (NF). I can‘t state enough how much I love this “swap”, so many wonderful books I might not have found on my own. So my thanks to you all for enriching my reading life. 💙💙💙 (edited) 1mo
Deblovestoread I‘ve had trouble all year tagging Christine and can‘t again today so I hope you see this. And I think MadDashReading has a new handle but I can‘t remember it so if someone does would you mind reminding me and tag her in the comments? Thanks! 💙 1mo
monalyisha @Deblovestoread I‘ve been using my desktop computer to tag Christine (she‘s my match this year, as well). 😅 It works if you search her last name in conjunction with her first. I don‘t think it‘s possible on the app, though! 1mo

Deblovestoread @monalyisha Thanks for the full name tip! 1mo
Amiable @Deblovestoread I‘m so happy to hear that you enjoyed several of my picks —and I totally agree with your comment about the discovery of fabulous books we might not have found on our own! 1mo
Christine Oh yay, this is such a thrill to read!!! 💙💙💙💙💙💙 Wasn't Finding Me incredible?? I kind of want to reread it right now. BUT, I won't be doing that, in part because I'm going to sneak in a few more from your list before the end of the year and am so excited to do so!!! 1mo
Christine And ugh, my evil username strikes again!!! 🤣 I'm sorry! I had no idea what I was doing when I (lazily) chose it. (And yes, searching for Christine Crofts works when tagging, I think - thanks @monalyisha !). 1mo
Christine Now I'm very curious to see @Amiable 's current and previous year lists, too! 😁 I don't know if I'll get to The Family Roe in 2024 but absolutely will eventually! 1mo
Amiable @Christine Email me at AmyBF45@ gmail.com and I‘ll send you the list I compiled for my swap partner this year! 1mo
Christine @Amiable You are so sweet! Emailing now! :) 1mo
Megabooks What a great list! I highly recommend An Immense World. I still think about it daily. 1mo
Amiable @Christine Sent you an email -- sorry it's so ... um...excessive. 😁 1mo
Christine @Amiable Not excessive in the least, and I can't wait to pore over and respond soon!! (In the throes of end-of-term grading for the five college courses I'm teaching, but the end is in sight!!) 1mo
Amiable @Christine Yikes! May the Force (of the red marking pen) be with you! 1mo
