#CoverStories #Barn Spin wool , make cheese, make bricks ,cure bacon! My grandparents could make almost everything, I have always been interested in the old folkways. If we keep going the dystopian way we all may need books like this !

sarahbarnes I‘ve always been interested too. And agreed. 1mo
Eggs I can totally relate - my parents were born in 1910 and 1913, and were old-school self-sufficient! 1mo
Leftcoastzen @Eggs people didn‘t have much of a choice back then , no money to pay for it even if you could find people to do it 1mo

Eggs @Leftcoastzen I used to make soap, candles, bread, yogurt, clothing, slipper socks, scarves, quilts, grow gardens, can/preserve and more. But it‘s really rough on the hands and wrists!!! 4w
Leftcoastzen @Eggs Wow , that‘s amazing ! Also, that‘s why people got worn out at a younger age . There wasn‘t alternatives . I helped my grandmother can , and we made butter together in a large jar size churn . Even she said , bread takes too much time ! I‘ll just buy it at the grocery store. Once it was readily available!😁 (edited) 4w
Eggs @Leftcoastzen Awesome 👏🏻 4w

Saw this on Facebook to make mini books. The crafters precut foam tape is at DollarTree, according to the post.

I‘ve been wanting to make mini books and then place them in a clear tree ornament.

Mercury Stardust is the Trans Handy Ma‘am on social media. Her DIY videos started showing up in my YouTube feed a few months ago. While I‘m not a renter, this books has helpful information in it for all. I like her message of “You‘re worth the time it takes to learn a new skill.”

Finished February 16, 2025.

TheBookHippie I like her so much. 1mo
ericarobynreads Yessss! She rules! 1mo
Reggie I‘ve never heard of her before. Thanks for putting her on my radar. 1mo

I liked very few of the projects in this book. I would definitely not call all of them upcycled, and many of them needed more detailed instructions. Also, the author seemed really arrogant. But there are some good ideas and useful tips (like what kind of glue to use), and I think one of the things about upcycling is it‘s hard to say “here‘s a project you can do” because it‘s so dependent on what materials you have at hand. Borrow, not buy.

Clare-Dragonfly @dabbe I think this was the first time they‘d both been on my lap at the same time! 😻 3mo

A short book about reducing your carbon footprint by creating an ethical wardrobe. I have to give a presentation on this in February and this was a great place to start for basics.

janeycanuck Oh, this is something I want to turn my attention to this year. I‘ll have to pick this up. If you have other book recommendations or resources, I‘d love to hear them! 3mo
Bookwormjillk @janeycanuck there was a great National Geographic article in April 2024 if you have access to that. I‘ll try to find a link for you. 3mo

This book takes two hands and that‘s not permitted at the moment.

I‘ve been sick the last couple days and Let This Radicalize You is just too much for my tired brain to take right now. This seems like it will do the trick instead.

A handy follow up to their first book filled with more useful tips. It's also funny and relatable. 5*
