Rosemary's Baby | Ira Levin

#OldCoolBooks #curdler 😱

When I reread Rosemary's Baby a couple years ago, I went with the e-book because it was a Kindle deal, but when I get the opportunity to check out used books anywhere, I look for an old cool copy of this curdler to add to my bookshelves. The copy I snuck off my parents' bookshelves was the red cover paperback, so I'd love that one or one with the original hardback cover on the left. #memories

ValerieAndBooks I don‘t remember what the cover looked like when I read my parents‘ copy a million years ago, but I do remember a picture of Mia Farrow on the back cover! I should find out what the movie tie-in cover looked like. 7y
LauraJ ❤️❤️❤️ 7y
Herschelian Loved that book, and ALL Ira Levins books, thanks for jogging my memory. Time to reread them methinks! 6y
Linsy There are a few I always look for as well ... and then wonder if I‘ll ever find them. Finding them in a bookstore just feels so serendipitous and different than ordering them used online. 6y
ReadZenRites This title has been referenced so many times in popular culture, I figure I ought to read it sometime!😊 6y

#OldCoolBooks #Curdler H.P Lovecraft was born in 1890, wrote for pulps but was never able to make a living by his writing.August Derleth & Arkham House Publishers selected these stories in 1963, but I think this volume dates from the 80s or 90s with its 17.95 cover price & an ISBN on the back. The idea was to consult Lovecrafts original manuscripts & early publications to arrive at a more definitive edition.Still on my TBR.

Linsy What a great dust jacket! It‘s crazy how some of the greats are only recognized after they‘ve left us. 7y
Leftcoastzen @Linsy Both King and Joyce Carol Oates list him as a big influence re: macabre, gothic ,etc. The negative , not too enlightened,as some of his generation regarding women and race. 7y
LeahBergen Cool! 7y

Here‘s an old book with a tale to curdle your blood. The author was hired to track a female tiger that had killed 460 people (yes, 460) in early 20th-century India. 😮

He went on to help create the first national park in India and the first national reserve for the endangered Bengal tiger (so it all ended well, I guess).

merelybookish Whoa 460! 😮 7y
vivastory Surely that's some kind of record? 😬 7y
Melissa_J Wow! That‘s definitely a man eating tiger 🐅 7y

Linsy Whoa, that‘s insane! And seriously so impressive. I might need to read this! 7y
DebinHawaii Great cover! And it sounds like an interesting book! 🐅😱 7y
rubyslippersreads I spy Betsy! 😄 7y
LeahBergen @merelybookish @vivastory @Melissa_J @Mdargusch @Linsy @DebinHawaii It‘s still TBR so I don‘t know if she actually ate her victims or just toyed with them like a big, nasty housecat. 😬 6y
LeahBergen @rubyslippersreads She‘s met the TDS! And I‘m craving onion sandwiches. 😆 6y
Moray_Reads Whoa. How is that even possible? How did they know it was a single tiger?! So many questions. Better get reading, Leah! 😉 6y
ShelfRighteous @LeahBergen On this book right now😍 6y
LeahBergen @TanmayeeJ How are you enjoying it? 6y

#Curdler: A story that‘s so creepy, gross, etc. that it curdles the blood (not literally, I‘m assuming). I don‘t think I have any old books on my shelves that do that, but I found this first edition S.S. Van Dine at a used book store recently and have become fascinated. He was one of the most popular Depression era writers, and yet I‘d never even heard of him! #OldCoolBooks

batsy So cool! And the book sounds really interesting. 7y
Leftcoastzen Love that Deco lettering! 7y
LeahBergen Cool! 7y
Linsy @Leftcoastzen @LeahBergen @batsy I was so excited when I learned this was a first edition. It has no spine, but I don‘t care! Apparently the quotes around “Canary” were taken away for most subsequent printings. 7y
ReadZenRites The book is beautiful without it‘s spine. I‘m glad it found a good home. 😊💕 6y

#OldCoolBooks #Curdler

My mum has a lovely hard back edition of this classic (this is not it). It sat on my #TBR shelves for years. I had a big clean out a few years ago and gave it back to her, unread. I do intend to get to it....one day. I believe it‘s quite the #curdler.

Samplergal It‘s an amazing book. You should throw that on the top of your TBR. 7y
Chelsea.Poole I just recently read it after having it on my list for years. It didn‘t disappoint! 7y
Bklover The writing in this book is amazing. The atmosphere that Capote creates is chilling. 7y

Linsy Yes, it is! I read it right before 11th grade for summer reading. It horrified me! I have a feeling I should go back and read it as an adult. 🤔 7y
Sue I read it last year and it‘s so good! 7y
