I had to smile at this #BookCoincidence #BookSerendipity since I'm also in the middle of #TheNixBuddyRead at the moment. You can go your whole reading life and suddenly the myth/tale of The Nix pops up in two books at the same time. What were the odds?

#LOTRChapterADay

Beholderess I am listening to Neil Gaiman audiobook, and just got to the part where he professes his love for LOTR 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Beholderess Perfect timing too! 7y

"Perilous to us all are the devices of an art deeper than we possess ourselves."

I think that could have gone with the other book I finished reading today! #BookCoincidence

Remember any technology more advanced than your own, appears to be magical in nature.

I put this book down for over a month while I re-read Harry Potter for its anniversary this year. What a bizarre coincidence to finish Voldemort's quest to eradicate Muggles & Mud-Bloods while White Supremacists marched on the current news, and then to pick this book back up today and find the place I left off all those weeks ago right at the start of Nazi genetics/eugenics. If that's not a #BookCoincidence #BookSynchronicity I don't know what is.

Laalaleighh Reading this excerpt made my chest hurt. 7y
Laalaleighh Also Voldemort is totally based on Hitler but grindlewald is Hitler. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Laalaleighh Me too! I'm thinking that poor baby's name should be remember and well known. 😢 7y

By now you probably all know I love a good #BookCoincidence and a great throwback or cross fandom mention. But this chapter reminds me of one of my favorites....when in The Martian by Andy Weir they call their secret meeting the Council of Elrond I smiled to myself reading it. But when they cast Sean Bean and his character got to explain what that meant, total genius. Nerd geek fan perfection.

#LOTRChapterADay

stargazerblue49 I loved that part of the movie! So great! 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @stargazerblue49 Right! Such a great little moment, I bet Sean Bean laughed when he got the script. 7y
Susanita And he didn't die! 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Susanita Right! He lost his job, but for once he wasn't killed off! 😂 7y

When my Harry Potter re-read hits almost exactly the same tone my #LOTRChapterADay section hit today. Trust your friends, you need them and do them a disservice by trying to exclude and protect them.

I love a good #BookCoincidence #Bookincidence

Mimi28 I need to remember that also ❤️❤️ 7y
KCorter Wow, how apt! 7y

Weird book coincidence: this book is talking about the Tuskegee airman and their Red-Tailed Mustang fighter planes, as well as early segregation in the military effort.

Earlier this month I read George Lucas: A Life, which includes where Lucas is trying to get the movie Red Tails made Independently and encountering obstacles.

I'm so glad the reviews and box office for this story have been better received so far!

Betty There was a 1995 HBO movie on the Tuskegee Airmen. Starred Cuba Gooding, Jr and Laurence Fishbourne. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Betty Red Tails was 2012 and I believe also had Cuba Gooding Jr. 8y
becausetrains @Riveted_Reader_Melissa and even in Europe the Black squadrons got separate-but-equaled. When most USAAF squadrons were getting early P-51s, America's most advanced fighter plane, the Red Tails had prewar-design P-39s & slower P-47s. The Tuskegee fliers only got early P-51s when most squadrons had later models w/better armor & visibility. The Army also maintained segregated USOs & facilities overseas, which confused even the imperial British. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @becausetrains I've found that a lot about England the mainland versus England the colonies. Because the colonists segregated or enslaved those they were colonizing (America, India, etc), but less frequently brought those practices (or peoples) home....some of the developments in their former colonies seemed so odd to those of mainland Britain. It's interesting how their "playbook" abroad, didn't quite have the same long-term impact at home. 8y

Oh, you know, that time during your normal commute and you are listening to Jenny Lawson talk about polar bears are unwelcome guest (if you don't know what I'm talking about, just listen to this). Then, in the lane next to you, a truck appears. With a carved wooden bear in it. Also, a wooden skull. Because when else is an opportune time to drive with wooden bears in your truck. Can't make this up, y'all. 😂😂😂
Best DC morning commute.

Hobbinol Just wow😶! 8y
