Pickpick

Recommended by my very favorite author, this historical ghost story set in the frigid & isolated Arctic Circle, this makes for an unsettling listen. Jack joins this small research expedition, almost immediately at odds with one of his older & rougher companions. When circumstances strand him alone with the huskies, it‘s more than just the months of darkness that add to the chill… It‘s a quick listen & one that‘d make for a good book club pick!

It's almost the end of the month, so it's time for another installment of my #2024bookbracket. I accomplished a lot more reading in October compared to September. Both Sep/Oct were tough to compare as well as the bonuses as they are completely different books but I managed to make my picks with careful consideration.

Only two more months!

Thank you for tagging me! #wondrouswednesday

1. Dark Matter by Michelle Paver - spooky and haunting, I find myself thinking back to it often.

2. Functionally I enjoy audiobooks most, they help me get so much done. But also I like all forms.

3. I think that might be classic lit. But fantasy is a close second.

It has been two months so it's time to post the new installment of my #2024bookbracket. I read a lot more in August than I did in July but I still struggled a bit to decide which one is my top read for August. Looking forward to seeing what I pick for September.

I think I tried to pick this up years ago, but didn't get into it. I now finished it in two days.

I really enjoyed how atmospheric it was and the profound feeling of loneliness persisted so well when I got deeper into the book. It definitely echoes Man vs Nature with a sprinkling of Man vs. Himself. In essence, it is a story of survival and perseverance.

Doppoetry It was also nice to see a queer character being represented in this time period. it was also nice to watch them going from not liking dogs to bonding with one. That journey was very wholesome. 3mo

Bedtime reading. Pullman has hinted that he has an announcement coming soon which I'm hoping means there will be a release date for the conclusion of this trilogy! I hoped it would be this year so I'm rereading all the books in this world in canonical order at the moment. This is #2 in that sequence.

This was a bit out there. A mix of horror and fantasy trying to pretend like it's sci fi. A scientist in Greenland unfreezes a young girl who turns out to be alive and ancient. They need to learn her language to uncover her secrets. It was entertaining for a couple of hours.

Sace Reminds me of this one that‘s been sitting on my shelf forever. 5mo
vlwelser @Sace I guess I knew this was a theme but it comes across as comical. I would probably also read that if I tripped on it. 5mo

I'm currently in CPH waiting for a flight and I don't think this book is leaving DK.

Our current read aloud. A gentle book for ungentle times. Perhaps when these children grow up they‘ll each have a bit of Duane in them.
