#20Series20Days Day 11: 87th Precinct

Ed McBain took the noir private-eye aesthetic -- flawed heroes, moral ambiguity, urban settings, ironic humor, punchy prose -- and applied it to this long-running series of cop stories set in a fictional city that was basically New York. I'm a fan of the mood and the characters but especially the writing whose terse power could out-Hemingway Hemingway.

This was a recent thrift store find. It's a series, and although interesting and well written, I am not sure if I am entirely hooked. It does, however, talk about the lengths that some people will go to achieve what they want. And some of those are pretty damn extreme. #recentlyread #crimenovel #copstory #87thprecinct

The first of over 40 police procedurals in his 87th Precinct books. Besides the story of the crimes, McBain follows the lives of the cops with great character development, realistic dialog and humor. I met the author at signings twice and feel a close bond to him because my older brother got me started on McBain when I was 16. Sorry to hear he died several years ago. He also writes under the name Evan Hunter.

Last year i read the first in the 87th precinct series, a classic pulp paperback series. I did think having got it cheap on eBay i may start collecting them. But there are over 50!!
