I love Nancy Drew. I collect old editions, and I used to devour anything Nancy. So I thought it would be fun to pick up one of the graphic novels from the library. While I liked some of the updates (George is a tech whiz; Bess, while still a big flirt, has been credited with much more of a brain) there was definitely something lacking.

And Nancy Drew would NEVER run out of gas, TWICE?!?!

As you can see from my post 3 min ago I was very excited about this. However I am 22% in (my normal cut off point) and the characters are TERRIBLE and 1 dimensional. The whole story is based around text boxes and not the REASON WE HAVE THE MEDIUM. I was so excited too 😕

queerbookreader I was so pumped for these too!! And I read this one a few months ago and it was legit terrible I was so upset 8y

queerbookreader I totally have hope that a Nancy Drew graphic novel series can be done well but not the way these are. I'm not even touching the Hardy Boys ones because they look like the same style as these 8y

maximoffs @lemonlime799 I HATED how much of the story was told through the boxes. I feel like those shouldn't be used for exposition, they should be used stylistically and rarely. Ugh it was terrible. 8y

Kind of boring. Not really charming like Nancy Drew books and the PC games are. I feel like this could have been done with more depth and seriousness to the story and characters, but it was super basic, which lost the point of Nancy Drew. Also, the art was super wonky. So. Prolly won't read the 2nd one I picked up too.
