I don‘t like the Eternals as much as I do the other superheroes. I just couldn‘t get connected to any of them. However, this edition of Eternals by Neil Gaiman is still worth a read simply because Gaiman is a great writer.

Never really drew me in. Characters weren‘t that compelling. The concepts weren‘t that exciting.

Did a dive into the Eternals to prepare for the upcoming movie. The Kirby collection was interesting, but older comics are so heavy with exposition and explanation, it can be a drag sometimes. The Gaiman reboot was great as a stand-alone, but better IMO with some context from the originals. There is a lot of potential for the film!

Eternals by Neil Gaiman and John Romita, Jr. I can see how this will probably be the basis for the film. It is Kirby interpreting Chariot of the Gods mixed with some Gaiman dark fairy tale and a bit of Lovecraft.

Gaiman and Romita Jr successfully reintroduce the family of cosmic immortals into the modern Marvel Universe, originally created by the ‘King‘ Jack Kirby.
A concept that struggled to gain widespread acceptance during its initial run, these characters, super beings created by even more powerful, unknowable space gods, seem a better fit for our times. A suspenseful tale beautifully rendered, this is worth checking out.

Interesting to read but not as good as I had hoped. The German edition might have to do with it, it sounded stilted.

emz711 I didn't even know Gaiman wrote something like this 5y
julesG @emz711 Me neither. Stumbled upon this at the library. 5y

Feet up. Coffee and tea - couldn't decide - and library finds.

Cringing, the German translation of the tagged book is... not very good; stilted dialogue 😔

Would like to use either of the books for #BBRC, but can't think of a category right now.

The library is a bit out of the way so I got steps in.

TheAromaofBooks I thoroughly enjoyed Nimona! 5y
LibrarianRyan Nioma could fit in Middle Grade GN. I know it's not technically MG, but it works because it can be read by a younger audience. 5y
julesG @LibrarianRyan Thanks. I'll add it to the prompt. 😘 5y

julesG @LibrarianRyan Eternals might go into the Favourite author slot. 😉 5y
CocoReads I‘m hoping to hit the library tomorrow so I can finally get started on #BBRC 5y
julesG @CocoReads Best of luck! It's great for picture books and early readers. I would visit the library more often if it wasn't a hike from the next bus or tram stop. The main library used to be located at the public transport hub of town, now its been relocated and is difficult to reach. Also, apart from the children's and teen section nothing appeals to me. They have only 4 (!!!) shelves of books in English. 😔 5y
CocoReads I have a branch close to me but I can‘t get there when they‘re open. That‘s what I need it for-picture books and early readers. Probably middle grade as well—I‘ll have to make a plan tonight so I can either get some checked out or at least put on hold. 5y
julesG @CocoReads I downloaded Ryan's spreadsheet and filled it in, as well as taking a picture of the book I read. I'll have to go back for ER books. MG and Teen/YA we have at home. 😉 5y

Pardon my full-on geekery for a moment, but I thought anyone not following Comicon might want to know the newly announced Marvel movies and TV shows.

Other big news:
Jeffrey Wright is Uatu the Watcher! Mahershala Ali is Blade! Natalie Portman is back for Thor 4! Doctor Strange 2 is a horror movie costarring Scarlet Witch! Black Widow takes place after Cap: Civil War and Taskmaster will be the villain! The Eternals cast is just absurd!

Carry on.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk To clarify, the ones with dates are movies, the ones with seasons are TV shows. 5y
Karkar Woo hoo Loki!!!! 5y

rabbitprincess Very excited that Taika Waititi is directing the new Thor! I loved Thor Ragnarok. Hoping the Doctor Strange movie isn't too scary, because I don't do horror 😰 5y
julesG Look, @the_magicreader, more stuff to geek out about. Just love raising you. 😘 5y
AbhisekBasu Also, the what if? Movie seems like it'll be the most intriguing one 5y
Centique This is AWESOME. 😍 5y
rretzler Can‘t wait! I think I have some definite mixed emotions about a horror Dr Strange bit very excited for all of them. I wish they would resurrect the Netflix series which I thought were fabulous (even Iron Fist was getting better) but it looks like those might be dead sadly. 5y

I managed a few #GraphicNovels this past week for #BFC and #MayMadness . I also realized that I can't walk and read at the same time. 😋 Eternals was a re-read, and was as good as I remembered. Firefly comics are always enjoyable. Magic Order and Unnatural are both pretty good. Desert Star is a so so tale of Western revenge that has too many trigger warnings to list.

F-you 2017. It's 2am in the morning and I'm chugging Cherry Dr. Pepper and reading comic books. 🙌

Maybe in 2018 I'll learn how to adult (doubt it).

Jennifer3 Adulting is no fun!!! I am up late myself because I just want to be on Litsy and read my books. Sleep? Who needs that? 7y
