I didn‘t love this brick of a book as much as I might have at some other point in my reading life. Romantic historical fiction isn‘t quite my jam at the moment. But it does feature a #bizarrelovetriangle! 😀

William is a #poormisguidedfool when it comes to these two #sisters. And this novel is an example of my book-collecting #hobby. 😊

First off, the setting (especially the parts on the island of Guernsey) was perfection! This is the story of two sisters who fall in love with the same boy when they were young and how that impacts their relationships and their entire lives. Some parts were frustrating for me, but there are a lot of great little nuggets about life in this story. Not a short book, but I do so love Goudge‘s writing!
Summer temps have arrived early 🕶☀️, but the mornings tend to be cooler, so I‘ve been enjoying quiet moments to myself. A time of reflection, journaling, dreaming and catching up on last minute reads before the end of the month.

I‘m kicking off the long weekend with a vintage edition of Elizabeth Goudge, a cup of White Cherry tea from Story Of My Tea and waiting anxiously for a baked camembert to come out of the oven.
What are you looking forward to this long weekend?

It‘s been a full day! After a few hours at a café (Mr. S and I were both busy working on projects), we stopped at an indie bookstore. Mr. S ended up with a stack of Stephen Kings & I found a foxed, but beautiful 1944 edition of ‘Green Dolphin Street‘ by Elizabeth Goudge; a favourite author of mine. Afterwards, we stopped for brunch. It‘s hard to pass up their rosemary flatbread with goat cheese, roasted peppers, caramelised onions and tomatoes.
“Life was not so easily extinguished, and spring trod upon winter‘s heels. It flaunted its colors in the face of death, and laughed under its breath.”
My favourite #oversizedbook. Set in the Channel Islands and New Zealand, Green Dolphin Country is a epic love story that spans 50 years. Really lovely💖 #riotgrams
