A Tapping at My Door
A Tapping at My Door: A gripping serial killer thriller | David Jackson
11 posts | 5 read | 16 to read
From the bestselling author of Cry Baby, the beginning of a brilliant and gripping police procedural series set in Liverpool, perfect for fans of Peter James and Mark Billingham "Recalls Harlan Coben - though for my money Jackson is the better writer." Guardian A woman at home in Liverpool is disturbed by a persistent tapping at her back door. She's disturbed to discover the culprit is a raven, and tries to shoo it away. Which is when the killer strikes. DS Nathan Cody, still bearing the scars of an undercover mission that went horrifyingly wrong, is put on the case. But the police have no leads, except the body of the bird - and the victim's missing eyes. As flashbacks from his past begin to intrude, Cody realises he is battling not just a murderer, but his own inner demons too. And then the killer strikes again, and Cody realises the threat isn't to the people of Liverpool after all - it's to the police. Following the success and acclaim of the Callum Doyle novels, A Tapping at My Door is the first instalment of David Jackson's new Nathan Cody series.

This was a good read, set in a Liverpool, England.

First book in the DS Nathan Cody Series, where he is investigating the murders of fellow police officers. Nathan himself is struggling to cope with events from a previous case. I look forward to continuing this series.

Really liked this first in series, set in Liverpool. So much so I bought the other three books in the series 🙈 Content warning for scenes of torture; they are few but horrifying (me, out loud: 😫 “HOLY F*CKING SH*T!”).

My reading this month has been CRAAAAAAP. Between houseguests and the boiling temperatures and the World Cup and an unexpectedly busy work month, my heart just has not been in it. I‘ve started and stopped far too many books but am hoping to get back on track in August. #StartASeries I‘m coming to “hang out” with @TrishB and @suzie.reads 😋

suzie.reads Hope you enjoy it 😃 I ❤ this series the books get better and better 5y
Ashley_Nicoletto I‘m ready for fall. 🤭🤣 Every time I go outside I feel unmotivated. 5y
MicheleinPhilly @Ashley_Nicoletto So gross. I hate summer! 5y

kspenmoll This heat has been consistently HOT here in CT so I can imagine its been hotter in Philly. 5y
TrishB Enjoy 👍🏻hope this helps. 5y
MicheleinPhilly @TrishB Couldn‘t sleep last night so read most of it and finished at lunch. Then spent far too much time falling down an internet rabbit hole because I knew nothing of Hillsborough. 😢😢 5y
TrishB 💔💔 Justice for the 96. YNWA. The working class sold out by the establishment and the press making up lies. Long time for the truth to come out but we never stopped fighting. If you can bear it read this one. 5y
MicheleinPhilly @TrishB I know your press has quite the reputation but this was absolutely horrendous. As was the behavior of the police. I was happy to see that that Ducken whatever character will be re-tried in October. 5y
TrishB Thank you for caring. It‘s a subject close to Liverpool fans hearts ♥️. 5y
MicheleinPhilly @TrishB I think I feel such affection for Liverpool because the more I read about it, the more it reminds me SOOO much of Philadelphia. He wrote something in this book about the reputation of Scousers and the city amongst people who have never been and it resonated so much with me. 5y
TrishB I think the cities seem very alike ❤️ and everyone seems to hate your sports fans too! 5y
MicheleinPhilly @TrishB HA! That‘s an understatement. 😂 5y

Belated #BookHaul post from Parry Sound's Bearly Used Books. An excellent store; you must visit if you end up in Ontario cottage country. Not pictured are three mysteries I bought for my mum 😁

batsy That Oxford anthology 😍 6y

@TrishB I passed on your recommendation of this book to Mrs. Bookwomble (it's more her genre) and she's just started on her library copy. She's most excited that an initial chase after a criminal goes past the Cake Shop in Liverpool's Central Station! 🎂🏃🏻‍♂️👮‍♂️

TrishB It happens a few times 😁😁 7y
TrishB Not all in central station... 7y
Bookwomble @TrishB I'll expect more squeals! 7y

Good start to a series - will definitely read more. Good, gritty police drama. Didn‘t guess the ending and was quite thrown by it! Can‘t say anymore as it will ruin it, very relevant to Liverpool folk.

Bookwomble Sounds like a good one. Love the Gary Numan bookmark ☺ 7y
TrishB @Bookwomble Numan‘s my musical hero 😁 7y
Bookwomble I remember being entranced by the Lee Cooper advert in the late '70s, with Gary singing Don't Be A Dummy over the dance antics of cool-looking androids/ models. One of my favourite authors is Philip K. Dick, who Gary often references in his lyrics. Are Friends Electric? is basically a musical summary of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. 7y

Bookwomble I'm not a great one for police procedurals, but Mrs Bookwomble thinks this one sounds like it's up her street. 7y
TrishB @Bookwomble I read all of Philip K Dick because of Numan 😁 7y
TrishB @Bookwomble it‘s a good one for police procedural s 👍🏻 7y

Nope
The Core - Peter V Brett
Both - but probably just ahead are bookmarks!
The tagged one - I won a book on Readers First and when it came it was the 3rd in a series, so I had to order one and two obviously.....
