10 posts | 7 read | 1 to read
With new and classic Sarah's Scribbles comics, essays, and more, this book is a celebration of one of the best loved comic voices of a generation. With 100 comics, 15 essays, and dozens of photos and sketches, the fifth Sarah's Scribbles book offers a rare look behind the creative process of one of the most original and beloved comic artists of a generation. A comedic companion to her first book, the bestselling Adulthood is a Myth, the artwork and writing in Adulthood is a Gift! is a celebration of the many experiences and life lessons the author has picked up in her decade of making viral, relatable, and award-winning comics and books.

The only thing I didn't like about this book was that I wanted even more. It's so interesting to learn about the progress of Sarah Andersen as an artist and a person. I was amused that she saw herself as moving away from “relatability“ in her recent work, because it's still her hallmark for me, even when the main character has bat wings.

(The image isn't from this book, btw, but it illustrates what I wanted to say perfectly.)

I always enjoy a "Sarah's Scribbles" book. Of course, there were some I really enjoyed, others I didn't care for. I think this one was a little bit more personal to the author, which was nice to see.

This was my least favorite of the Scribbles books but the majority of the comics were funny.

Always a good time. Includes a nice sprinkling of spooky-themed comics giving seasonal vibes. The experience is elevated by the essays in the back of the book, Andersen discussing her growth as an artist, regrets about earlier comics, important issues and how she handles them now. Her tone remains that of relatable, but not cynical, comical observations with a mix of truly wholesome, sweet silly moments that I greatly appreciate.

TieDyeDude This really is a celebration of her comic. Such a good read! 2w

Robotswithpersonality @willaful Read it a couple years ago. Andersen's pretty good for spooky content year round in her mix of comics; think I'm following her on Tumblr... 3w

Who doesn't love Sarah's Scribbles?! This not only has a collection of new and classic comics, but also a series of essays in which Sarah reflects on her career.
