Although it is one of the UKæs most populous counties, it is also largely a rural one, including no less than three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and abutting the Pennines, Dales and Lake District. There is a huge variety of contrasting and inspiring walking country, from the coast to hills and from forests to moors. I like the "40 Favourite Walks" series, though we tend to do more looking at the walks in the book than doing them, so it was nice to finally put the Lancashire edition to use.
Warton Crag is a limestone outcrop west of the Pennines, South of the Lakeland Fells and overlooking the plain down to Morecambe Bay. It was a great walk on a glorious day, which set me up for my cheese salad barm when I got to the top!

I've done more Booking than Wombling lately, so although this is a moderate walk, it's giving me quite a workout š�µ
