Seyonne is a man waiting to die. He has been a slave for sixteen years and has lost everything of meaning to him: his dignity, the people and homeland he loves, and the Warden's power that enables him to step into a human soul and do battle with demons. But Prince Aleksander, heir to the Derzhi empire, has been possessed by the very demons that Seyonne once fought - demons now allied with the savage Khelid nation. Seyonne must recover his power and cast down the Demon Lords before they destroy both the Prince and his empire. I love this book, and it‘s my rebirth pick for today‘s #acrossapril prompt! What do you do when your power has been taken away from you and you‘re faced with a world-ending prophecy? #coloradolocal #coloradoauthor @Eggs

Eggs Nice choice 👏🏻🤗✅ 5y

I'm a slow reader. This is the first book I've ever finished in a week. I just couldn't put it down. I picked it up because Carol Berg is local to my area, and I fell in love with her work. If you like magic, dreams, and the changeability of the heart, you'll enjoy this series. #magic #dream #coloradolocal #fantasy #coloradoauthor

Another fantasy trilogy - read it about 10 years ago but still remember it well. If you like demons this is for you 😈

@LazyOwl

This is a series that came out in 2000. I find it's often overlooked, unfortunately. While it does hold to alot of the traditional fantasy tropes there is still a REALLY good story here with a bucket load of ALL THE FEELS!

Carol Berg is often compared with Robin Hobb...and while I can see the similarities I still think that she definitely has her own voice.
#NYBirthdayGiveaway

llwheeler I really enjoyed her Song of the Beast. A standalone fantasy, which I also think are often overlooked. I'll have to give this series a try, I missed them somehow. Thanks for the heads up 🙂 7y
LazyOwl I love it when I hear about less well known fantasy series. Adding to TBR. Thanks for the post. 7y
GrilledCheeseSamurai @llwheeler @LazyOwl she has another series called The Bridge of D'Arnath which is equally as good (it was a tough choice on which to post) the first book is called Son of Avonar. And yes, @llwheeler Song of the beast is 👌. 7y

Very typical fantasy but still a great read. Very much looking forward to reading the second and third books. I have been meaning to read this author for a while and wasn't disappointed. Well paced story, wonderfully built world, great writing. Really enjoyed the cultures and society that she built up in this world.

#Characters2017
#KingOfTheWorld

Aleksander doesn't want to be King of the World but he sure could. He's a brilliant character, with a strong personality and a powerful will.

Transformation is the first book in a trilogy. I've only read this so far, but if the rest of the series is as strong, this shapes up as one of the best fantasy series I've ever read

I can recognize that this novel uses a lot of not-very-well-regarded fantasy tropes ("let's torment our poor main character Seyonne as much as humanly possible" and "let's give our main character Seyonne magical powers greater than anyone ever"), but I enjoyed it anyway, so it's a "pick," I guess! ?

annkuch13 Sometimes it's nice to read some super tropey fantasy! 8y

Got up *extra* early to finish off this book! I was racing through it until this last chunk of pages and now I'm just suddenly not interested for some reason 😧😕 Does this ever happen to anyone else?

Leniverse I've had that happen sometimes, yes. I'm not sure why. A sort of reading overload. But it's not like it happens with every book I race through like that, so I just don't know. 8y
missevievelyn @Leniverse I don't know either! It always seems to take away from otherwise excellent/enjoyable books ☹️ 8y
LindsayReads Yes, and it's so disconcerting! 8y

missevievelyn @Chachic thanks! It's actually a hot dish--coconut rice, tofu and mango with cilantro and green onion on top! 😀 8y
