"A proper twisty thriller."--Sarah Pinborough A stranger has infiltrated your family...and now he's taking over. Paul's just here to help, or so he claims--sent by a charity for vulnerable people to do odd jobs for elderly widow Gwen. But for Gwen's daughter Connie, there's just something about Paul that rings alarm bells from day one. He's a little too kind, a little too involved...Worse still, Gwen seems to have fallen under his spell. The last thing Connie wants is a stranger meddling in the safe routine she's built around Gwen. She loves being the one Gwen turns to for cooking, cleaning and company. But the more Paul visits, the more Gwen is relying on him. By the time he conveniently finds himself between homes and has no choice but to move in, Connie is certain he's trying to push her out completely. It's her word against his, though, and as her attempts to unmask him become ever more desperate she's not the only one left wondering if she's lost her grip on reality. But when events start spiralling rapidly out of her control, should Connie wage all-out war on Paul and risk losing Gwen forever--or has that been his plan all along?

Another solid psychological thriller by John Marrs. I have just one more book to read by him and still enjoying them but none was as good as the first ones I read: The Passengers and The One.
This one is about a woman who takes care of her mother when an attractive man enters into their lifes who charms them both. As always, nothing is what it seems. Entertaining and full of twists.

Mehso-so

I read and loved “The One” by John Marrs and I‘ve been meaning to read more from him ever since. Unfortunately this one wasn‘t nearly as thought provoking, but it still had some redeeming qualities. I did figure out a major “twist” nearly immediately. I was waiting for another huge reveal that never really came. Much here about dementia and those in the home health care field, in Britain apparently called “carers”. Fine but I was expecting more.

BarbaraBB That‘s a pity, I have this one on my shelves too. I agree though that his speculative fiction is better than his thrillers. 5mo

5 Stars • The Stranger in Her House by John Marrs is a psychological thriller that explores the story of Connie, who returns home from Italy to take care of her ailing mother, Gwen. A stranger named Paul, sent by a charity, infiltrates their lives under the guise of helping with odd jobs. Connie becomes suspicious of Paul's intentions, leading to a tense and twisty narrative that delves into themes of manipulation, deception and vulnerability. ⬇️

suvata If you like intense, page-turning, psychological thrillers this book is for you. In fact, just add John Marrs to your must-read author list. 7mo

Well that was wild. I think I preferred the first half .. and I think I‘m ready for a change of genre. But I‘ll be back to John Marrs again , he‘s tried and trusted now.

One newly washed dog and me ready for an early night … This book is a real page turner. I‘m halfway, not too happy with some of the plot developments… but loving the pure escapism of it all. John Marrs is such a good thriller writer. So glad to have discovered him here on Litsy @BarbaraBB 🙏♥️

My favorite thing about John Marrs books is that your reach a conclusion but you still have plenty of book left and you KNOW there are more twists. Engaging from start to finish, I hit 10% left and thought it could be complete. But nay nay, there was one last thing to drop your jaw!
