Lauren Spierer was a college student who went missing from Indiana University in 2011. It was haunting and disturbing to read how easily a young woman disappeared without a trace. The journalist who wrote this couldn't keep himself out of the narrative as this investigation has defined his career in many ways. There are no real answers in the end, just grieving parents and a campus that doesn't seem to have changed much in the years since.

The true story of Lauren Spierer, a young college student who seemingly disappears in early June of 2011. Lauren had been partying with several other young people. She had a history of problems with drugs and alcohol. She was most definitely drunk and had been doing drugs earlier the night she vanished. Life goes on and yet it doesn‘t for her loved ones. At least one person knows what happened. Someone knows more than they are telling. 4/5

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cohen seems a bit self-indulgent, and is definitely repetitive, but it‘s never a bad thing to keep an unsolved story in the public eye. Lauren Spierer deserves to be remembered and respected. Sadly, it seems like whatever happened, regardless of the proposed scenarios, likely occurs more than we know. Holding out hope that one day someone finally talks. Because someone absolutely knows.

Normally I enjoy reading true crime narratives even if the case in question isn‘t resolved. Unfortunately this one didn‘t dig quite deep enough for me, and the reporter himself seemed to feel like a bit of a hero about his reporting of the case (and yet this didn‘t really lead anywhere). Anyway, didn‘t quite get the tone or the depth right for me.

Written by a reporter who covered the disappearance, this book relates the story of a student at Indiana University who went missing in 2011. By the end of the book, there are still too many unanswered questions and the three male students who were the last to see her look guilty as hell. Her body has never been found. Her family is still tormented by her loss. A very sad and all too familiar story.

Though Bloomington, IN isn‘t far from where I live outside of Chicago, I don‘t remember seeing anything about Lauren Spierer‘s disappearance on the news just over 13 years ago. Cohen, one of the original journalists to cover her case, returns to dive deeper into Lauren‘s life & try to get the group of young men who last saw her to speak more about what happened. Well reported but heartbreaking, this college sophomore‘s case deserves to be solved!

Wow! This book was a great read/listen. I was unfamiliar with the case & completely sucked in by it. Diving in to this case with 0 knowledge this book told me everything I needed to know. It was interesting to learn how involved the reporter got in the case & how he‘s stayed in contact with Lauren‘s family. I finished the audiobook feeling frustrated & angry for her family. It‘s obvious people are hiding things. Stories keep changing.
