Celestial Monsters | Aiden Thomas

New York Times-bestselling author Aiden Thomas returns to the beloved world of The Sunbearer Trials in Celestial Monsters, a heart-stopping duology finale, in which three young semidioses travel through a dark monster-infested world, facing down chaotic Obsidian gods, in a quest to save their friends and return the sun to the sky. Teo never thought he could be a Hero. Now, he doesnt have a choice. The sun is gone, the Obsidian gods have been released from their prison, and chaos and destruction are wreaking havoc on Reino del Sol. All because Teo refused to sacrifice a fellow semidiose during the Sunbearer Trials. With the world plunged into perpetual night, Teo, his crush Aurelio, and his best friend Niya must journey to the dark wilderness of Los Restos, battling vicious monsters while dealing with guilt, trauma, and a (very distracting) burgeoning romance between Teo and Aurelio. Once more racing against the clock, the trio are determined to rescue the captured semidioses and retrieve the Sol Stone. With it, Sol and their protective light can return and order can be restored. Now the future of the whole world is in their hands.

Still catching up on old reviews. I devoured this one in September when it first came out and it was even better than the first book! I loved the development of relationships, especially between the main four, and it was interesting to see more of the world during their trek to defeat the baddies.

Given how many fantasies come in trilogies, it was nice to see Thomas wrap up this story in one sequel instead of stretching it out to two. This book is more character focused, especially in the relationship between Teo and Aurelio, but there was still a twist I wasn't expecting that hit me in the feels.

Good example of diverse representation and queer characters without the queerness being the conflict.

September #ReadingBracket2024 fiction update
It was very close to being three months in a row of Alexandra Rowland books. However, although I adored Yield Under Great Persuasion, Celestial Monsters beat it out. The conclusion to the Sunbearer Duology was very exciting and satisfying

This was a terrific ending to this wonderful duology. I really enjoyed the quest that Teo, Aurelio and Niya went on. This book was adventurous and packed with action.

The book starts immediately where the last book left off. I would suggest re-reading the first book or reading the wiki because it goes straight into action and assumes you remember everything that happened.

I liked that it started this way. It was a continuation and that really worked for this series.

⬇️

PuddleJumper I loved it. The world building was great, the pacing felt right, and it was fun to join the characters again.

The series had a satisfying conclusion. I thought the ending was a bit rushed. I would have liked a bit more time spent on that but overall I really enjoyed the book.

Thanks to #Netgalley for the #ARC

Finishing this on my birthday is my favorite gift! I can‘t say much since this isn‘t out until September, but I LOVE this world. I purposefully tried to slow myself down because I didn‘t want it to end, but I also couldn‘t stop devouring it. I‘m going to miss Reino del Sol and all of these characters. I foresee many rereads in the future! 🦜❤️‍🔥

TheIntrovertedDodoBird You're so lucky. I would love to get my hands on the ARC of this book! 8mo
GirlNamedJesse @TheIntrovertedDodoBird It is the greatest perk of being a librarian and one no one ever mentioned it to me until I already was one! This book is definitely worth the wait! I almost wish I‘d waited because I have no one to talk to about it!! 😬 8mo
TheIntrovertedDodoBird @GirlNamedJesse Oh my, you're so much lucky. I knew the kid in me who aspired to be a librarian was onto something! I'm waiting impatiently for the release date to finally arrive! I'm so glad it's good! I couldn't imagine not blabbing about it the first chance I got if I'd read the ARC 😆. I hope you get to have a good conversation about it when it's FINALLY released! 8mo
