The Deception of the Emerald Ring
The Deception of the Emerald Ring | Lauren Willig
17 posts | 32 read | 6 to read
Eloise Kelly has gotten into quite a bit of trouble since she started spying on the Pink Carnation and the Black Tulip-two of the deadliest spies to saunter the streets of nineteenth-century England and France. Not only has she unearthed secrets that will rearrange history, she's dallied with Colin Selwick and sought out a romantic adventure all her own. Little does she know that she's about to uncover another fierce heroine running headlong into history.

Just as fun as the other books. Full of regency spies and romantic misunderstandings. The start of this one was more contrived than the previous two books, but the characters are likable and the story is engaging. Similar in tone to Georgette Heyer novels, though with more overt emphasis on the sexual tension between the main characters. The series has been enjoyable so far. Recommend.

Another great installment in the Pink Carnation series. I wish there had been more Jane aka Miss Fairley, but alas, we got some wonderful doses of Miss Gwen. Geoff and Letty weren‘t my favorite, but overall the story worked well. It does beg the question of what Lord Vaughn is up to though...

This was my first finish for #JubilantJuly and another finish for #bookspinbingo. Also this was Book 5 for #15books15weeks.

TheHeartlandBookFairy Way to multitask 😁 4y

Letty might be my favorite heroine yet — her straightforwardness & “I don‘t have time for spy games” attitude make her a really great foil to all the intrigue around her. Geoff was sweet, though he felt a bit similar to previous heroes. I had to knock a star for the eye-roll-inducing way India was described in a moment at the end. It makes me a little wary for what the book that takes place in British-occupied India is gonna look like...😬. ★★★☆☆.

This is the third book in the series and I think it's the best one yet! The characters were the best element. 😍💐

This is a fun series. Although I could do without the modern story line. I find the modern narrator immature #booked2018 #cozymystery #5of36 #audiobook

⭐️⭐️⭐️ but only for the audio version I think. A lot of humor, but the present day storyline was not as interesting as the main story. The narrator added a lot to this book.

I'm four chapters into this delightful audio version. I skipped the first two for some reason. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But the narrator makes the melodrama hilariously absurd 😊.
Edited to add that my knowledge of this particular historical period is practically nonexistent, so I will have to do some research. Down the rabbit hole I go!!

#MarchintoReading day 16 #Greencovers. I always enjoy Lauren Willig books. Lots of humor and a bit of #mystery in addition to #romance. @RealLifeReading

booksandsympathy I need to reread these. 8y
SaraRosett @booksandsympathy I was thinking the same thing! They're so interconnected and I'm sure I would pick up on more if I read the back to back. 8y
booksandsympathy That's true. I read them as they came out, so there was definitely time to forget little details in between each one. 8y

For today's #readjanuary #dressesoncovers I chose to highlight my favorite of the Pink Carnation series, The Deception of the Emerald Ring! I adore Letty, she's so dear to my heart! And the story is partly set in Ireland aka the motherland so it's basically like catnip to me! Any other Pink Carnation fans out there? 💕

Librarianaut I read the first one and enjoyed it!😍 8y
Christy2318 Me me me! Miss Gwen is probably my absolute favorite. I liked the whole series a lot but my favorites are the middle of the series books. 8y
Pinkmeghan @Librarianaut 👍 awesome!!! 8y

Pinkmeghan @Christy2318 I adore Miss Gwen, but her book left me a bit flat. I also must admit I can't bring myself to read Moonflower yet. One day, maybe. I just am terrible at goodbyes! 8y
JenicaDawn I chose the first one for one of the PopSugar category challenges! I'm excited to read it! 8y

mrsmarch MISS GWEN ❤🌸 8y
kammartinez This is my favorite as well :D! I relate so much to Letty, and Geoffrey is, in many ways, my idea of the ideal man XD. The other Pink Carnation hero whom I favor most is Augustus Whittleby, but that's mostly because I am a bit of a sucker for a poet ;D. 8y
Pinkmeghan @JenicaDawn 👍 I hope you love it!! @radishandhare 💜 love this series! @Karenlovesbooks I liked The Ashford Affair the most out of her other standalones I think! @LizzyM 💜it's so good! @CocoReads I highly recommend it! 8y
Pinkmeghan @kammartinez 😍 totally agree! I married a man temperamentally much like Geoffrey!! 8y
kammartinez @Pinkmeghan Woot! An excellent choice of husband then XD. 8y
Pinkmeghan @kammartinez thanks I think I'll keep him! 🤣 8y
