Subway Slayings: MM Slow Burn Romantic Mystery | C.S. Poe
5 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
Detective Everett Larkin of New York Citys Cold Case Squad has been on medical leave since catching the serial killer responsible for what the media has dubbed the Death Mask Murders. But Larkin hasnt forgotten that another mementoanother deathis waiting to be found. Summer brings the grisly discovery of human remains in the subway system, but the clues point to one of Larkins already-open cases, so he resumes active duty. And when a postmortem photograph, akin to those taken during the Victorian Era, is located at the scene, Larkin requests aid from the most qualified man he knows: Detective Ira Doyle of the Forensic Artists Unit. An unsolved case that suffered from tunnel vision, as well as the deconstruction of death portraits, leads Larkin and Doyle down a rabbit hole more complex than the tunnels beneath Manhattan. And if this investigation isnt enough, both are struggling with how to address the growing intimacy between them. Because sometimes, love is more grave than murder.

I decided today to crochet a book blanket for this year. I can track my books (I'll be going by length) and my husband will get a new blanket. Hopefully I stick with it 🤞

I found this series while playing kindle roulette (in which I scroll really fast through my kindle library and read whatever my finger lands on) during my holiday AND it was a delight! I read the first two (this being the second) back to back and am saving the third until I see a release date for the fourth book.

#12booksof2024 : November

My jam is absolutely damaged detectives solving crimes in an unusual manner with some romance on the side.

Andrew65 As good a way as any to choose a book. 1mo
AlaMich I love that, Kindle roulette! 😂 4w
Bookzombie I love your Kindle roulette! I think I have some of these on my Kindle. 4w

thegirlwiththelibrarybag I think most of my November reads were found via kindle roulette tbh 🫣 I have more books on my kindle than is possible to read in a lifetime so cutting down on decision time is key (also a swift DNF if I‘m not enjoying it) @Andrew65 @AlaMich 4w
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Bookzombie, it‘s honestly a fun way to chose your next book! I hope you give them a chance, if you do. I was surprised to be the first to review them on Litsy. 4w
Andrew65 @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Can definitely relate to this. 4w
AlaMich Sometimes I‘ll assign numbers to a set of books and tell Siri to pick a random number. 4w

Pickpick

Picks up from where book 1 left off with the aftermath of the anonymous letter delivered to Larkin, escalating in a body found in an IKEA bag in the subway with a creepy Victorian era style mourning portrait tucked into a pocket.

Larkin links this body to one of his unsolved cases which allows him to seek the expertise of Detective Ira Doyle again.

🖤 how their relationship develops - they are so gentle with each other & their various traumas
