One book can change your life. Finding an old manuscript in the attic has always been a fantasy of Sylvias. She just never expected the fantasy to come true, or for it to lead her to answers about her mysterious family. The silver clasps binding the pages contain rare magic the same magic that might run through Sylvias veins. To discover a link to her ancestors means understanding the book itself, but its written in a code that proves difficult to crack. The only thing she knows for certain is that it was once owned by the Medicis, the powerful family that controlled Renaissance Florence. With the help of Gabe and his friends, Sylvia investigates the books origins. But following the clues throws up more questions questions they need help answering. Trusting others is not Sylvias strong suit, but with Gabe at her side, she becomes capable and confident. Until their trust is shattered when the book is stolen. Uncovering the thief proves dangerous, particularly when someone is also trying to kidnap Gabe. With his own mysteries to unravel, Gabes private life becomes more complicated. Sylvia tries to keep her distance but staying away from someone as magnetic as Gabe is impossible. With so many distractions, can they find the thief before the book is lost forever? Or will the secrets contained within its pages remain unsolved and will Sylvias past continue to be a mystery?

Enjoyable series set during the 20s, with a bit more romance than I generally like but at least it doesn't take away from the story. The magic is interesting and makes it better. Will probably continue the series.

Book #2 in the Glass Library series. Sylvia is so similar to India… they‘ll have to meet at some point in the series and that will be interesting. This tale brought in a lot of characters…I‘m curious if many will show up again.

As good as book 1 in the series, this time our newly minted librarian is on the chase of a medieval mystery—who wrote, who owned, & who made the magical silver clasps of the Medici Manuscript? And what does its symbols mean? One reason I loved it is because I previously read The Bookseller of Florence in anticipation of my trip there, in which I learned vasts amounts about the making and selling of manuscripts & the Medici libraries. This book ⬇️

Texreader seemed to steer near to real-life facts although it would have been awesome had they tracked it to the most famous bookseller at the time of the Medici‘s. Magic plays on the outskirts of this series. It‘s important but magicians aren‘t performing magic as part of the plot, & I like that different take on the magical world. I especially love historical research. This book definitely met that criteria. @CoffeeK8 Did you like it too? 1y
GingerAntics Is this historical fiction or nonfiction? I do love the Medicis, but you know my apprehension with historical fiction. 1y
Texreader @GingerAntics historical fiction set right after wwI in which the characters do lots of historical research looking for magical pasts of the book 1y

GingerAntics @Texreader Hm… that could be good 1y
CoffeeK8 I loved it! I‘m so sorry for my late response. My Litsy was on the Fritz. I really love the way all the relationships grow and develop from the first book! 1y

This book is perfectly okay, nothing more. I like the characters, but Willie‘s attitude toward Sylvia is getting a little old. I am glad Archer didn‘t drag out the “is Gabe magical or isn‘t he” thing past this book. And some questions about Sylvia were resolved. A lot of Goodreads reviewers have liked the Glass & Steele series better, but I wasn‘t aware that this was a spin-off series, so I haven‘t read that one.

I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery involving the theft of a mysterious historical manuscript. The second book in The Glass Library series, there‘s an element of magic here, but it‘s not the focus of the story. Great ensemble of interesting characters. The third book comes out in September, and I just put in my preorder.

A little magic ✔️. A little mystery ✔️. Some flirtatious dialogue ✔️. Some characters who are comfortable living outside the box of conformity ✔️.

I'm here for the simple things.
