Didn‘t even try to pose him or get him to look at me.

Starting this now as the Chiefs try to win a 🏈 game and I think about some updates to my resume.

I really enjoyed this historical fiction romance story between news reporter Nick and newspaper owner‘s son Andy. The story did a great job of depicting NYC in the 1950‘s for gay couples.

After loving the second book in this series I went back to read the first and was delighted to find that I loved it even more. These m/m romances set in the 1950s are so tender and sweet that I just turn into a smiling, sighing, compulsively page-turning creature until the end. Please tell me there will be a third book.

Second half lost me tbh, sweet grumpy/sunshine taking place in the late 1950s.
I loved Nick ❤️

I am still floored by how well Sebastian captures the period in this book. Nick and Andy are so deep and realistic, and their surroundings are given the same care and thought. Plus they're both a couple of big dummies who are head over heels for each other!!! God I love them. #reread #historicalromance

3.5 ⭐

The narrator for this was a bit too much for me. He leaned heavily into a 1950s characterization of a NY report voice and it got a bit grating. But the book itself was good. I was pulling for Nick and Andy from the jump. The situations are believable and I liked the authors afterwards that explained the climate at the time.
Both characters are lovable and the writing is solid.

#WeeklyForecast
I am half into River East and Ordinary Human, I am not going to get through the Long list before the shortlist is announced, many of these picks this year have been underwhelming and it has slowed me down. So far I am enjoying OHF but it is a bit heavy.
I also have the tagged on audio to liven things up. With the state of the world I might be bailing on these heavy WPF books and reading lighter happier books.

BarbaraBB I loved OHF but it is sad indeed and O know what you mean about the state of the world. Looking for an escape from reality 🥹 7mo

Well this was just beautiful, excellently narrated by Joel Leslie as usual. It‘s a friends to lovers queer romance set in the newspaper world of 1950s New York. Nick and Andy were just so easy to love and root for, as they sloooowly stumble into the cutest, sweetest domestic bliss. At the same time they gradually create a small circle of queer community and friends. The historical setting is wonderfully rendered, as are the secondary characters!

This book is lovely. It‘s such a tender tale of two people learning how to love, and, maybe more importantly, how to be loved. It‘s like if Tyler Childers video for In Your Love was a novel, it would be this book, and Nick and Andy would be the stars (at least in my mind). 😊 🎧side note: the narrator is not my favorite, but the story is worth it

My new year of reading started out well, with the epilogue to WCBSG. (You can get it, and previous years, by subscribing to the author's newletter.) Honestly, I'm usually not a fan of romance couple follow-ups, because they tend towards soppy adoration and not much else. But this is exactly the epilogue you'd expect for these two, who are perfectly themselves while also showing growth from their enduring relationship.

Been a while since I did the book & beer thing. Trans Canada‘s Lamp Lighter is very nice, as per usual, and I‘m all kinds of in love with WE COULD BE SO GOOD.

A lovely slow burn love story between coworkers who become best friends and then everything in 1959 NYC. The relationship between Nick & Andy is lovely and I like to imagine them now as 90 year old men with a big family, blood and found, who cook for them every Sunday. 🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Sebastian says that she loves to write historical stories that give queer people happy endings,&that is clear from this book.I loved both her main characters&thought they seemed like fully formed people whose issues made sense for the lives they had led. I don‘t recommend the audio. I almost stopped reading because the narrator‘s voice choices were so bizarre they didn‘t sound like real, genuine people as much as characters on 1950s radio.

For #MRC2023 July, I got 4 books read. 4! I've tagged Cat Sebastian's latest, which @willaful suggested for Building On Cover and thusly did I use it. Really surprised to enjoy it despite it being in present tense and some other marks against my tastes. Finna was a quick read but I'm glad I knew the author is NB or I'd have been annoyed by it. Queer Principles is a fabulous romp. The Yield is one of the most fascinating books I've read this year.

HELP I am IN EMOTIONAL DISTRESS over these GOOFBALLS and their LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER. Sebastian absolutely nailed the balance between sweet romance and the realities of queer life in the late 50s, and Andy and Nick's personalities are everything. The stupid orange cat! Their little network of friends! I die! #historicalromance
