I found the author to be too self-centered and judgmental to garner my sympathy. She snarks on about the “tourists” who are just after a picture for instagram, yet the hikes she describes taking in those parks I am familiar with are ones we took as a family when my kids were in the single digits - hardly epic hikes. This was my 1st #readyourkindle and I‘m just sorry it‘s not a paperback I can give away. @CBee

3☆ The premise of the book was very intriguing, and the authors description of the National Parks she visited-all but 1 park, were great. Alas her personality throughout the book is irritating and way too self centered. And she wonders why she is where she is!

While this was a decent read, I was expecting a bit more focus on her journey through all the national parks and less relationship woes with her (ex)boyfriend. The descriptions we got of her travels were beautiful & inspiring, but I was hoping for more of them. I understand that it's a memoir though and obviously her trip changed her life in many ways. I admire her courage for traveling the country mostly solo, especially during a global pandemic.

I loved the idea of this book: a woman taking a year off to explore America‘s national parks, without the foresight of knowing what 2020/covid/pandemic would bring to things. The story was less about the travel & parks & more about the author‘s struggles with romance/anxiety/life in general. Life is hard and 2020 increases that tenfold, and Emily shares all of it in a real way. Just wasn‘t the story I expected.
