"A complex mystery and yummy grilled cheese recipes. What's not to like?" Kirkus Reviews A bridal shower gone bad quickly becomes the swiss of death, and grilled cheese shop owner Carly Hale must sniff out the suspect Winter in Balsam Dell is a snowy affair, and to add in some cheer after the holidays Carly's former classmate Klarissa Taddeo is hosting her extravagant bridal shower at the historic Balsam Dell inn. But when a double-booking throws some mold in the cheese, Klarissa is left scrambling. Dawn, the maid of honor and wedding planner, saves the day by moving the shower to her family's mansion and books Carly to cater the party. It seems the group is going to pull off the shower without a hitch. That is, until Klarissa's fianc crashes the event. She's furious with her groom-to-be and when a loud argument ensues, everyone is shocked by what they hear. When the groom is later found dead at the bottom of the stairs, his drink spiked with a hefty dose of poison, Carly must put her nose to the rind and save Klarissa from being suspect #1. Because you know what they say: it's always the (almost) wife.

i have enjoyed this cozy series- also simultaneously wishing for some vegan cozy mysteries- Are there any?
I like the set up- the main character does seem to insert herself in situations that even for a cozy I‘m surprised work- but they do and it‘s a romp with a grilled cheese shop owner, and all her friends.

This was an alright cozy mystery. It did everything it was supposed to. My only problem with is that I could absolutely feel the age difference between the author and the characters, and that was annoying. Maybe next year the cozy choice could be more Halloween related though? #scarathlon #spookyghostclub #teamread +51pts

Clwojick We could definitely do that! I normally try to choose a new series every year so that I‘m the event someone has already read the books chosen, they can choose to read another book from that same series for the same point value! I‘ll look for some series with Halloween books for next year that we haven‘t already done! 😊 12mo

After working for a few days listing books in a spreadsheet, I'm calling Game 1 with 1,030 books (10,300 points). See my breakdown of categories above.

AmandaBlaze Great work! This is where I got the majority of my points this week. 13mo

Fairly typical cozy mystery. It was ok. I didn't care for the narrator, which probably made me like it less than if I'd read it in print.

Clwojick Great job! I agreed about the narrator, but can I also just add that now I‘m itching to try a grilled cheese donut. 😝 (edited) 13mo

Traci1 @Clwojick I love grilled cheese, but I'm not sure about the donut. I'm assuming it's not like a Krispy Kreme. So, it wouldn't be sweet? I could definitely get behind that. I make grilled Peanut Butter sandwiches all the time, too. Now that I could see between two glazed donuts. 13mo
Clwojick Mmmm now I want all the grilled cheeses! Two of my personal favourites are oven roasted garlic broccoli built into a grilled cheese, and perogy and grilled cheese sandwich. Mmmm I swear they are both delicious! 🤤 13mo

I had the laziest first day of #Scarathlon, and with that brought a handful of points! I finished Cheddar Late Than Dead for the #SpookyGhostClub buddy read. Next up were some impulse reads, thanks to @PuddleJumper 🖤 Creepy Cat was hilariously adorable ☺️ Finished up the day with a NetGalley audiobook I‘ve had for over a year. I also watched 2 Halloween episodes of Brooklyn 99, and read for a total of 7hr45m during 9 readathons! Day 1 points=3185

Here‘s my #20in4 TBR ☺️ My reading stats have been super low for September, so honestly even finishing the 4 I‘ve started and adding 2 more might be biting off more than I can chew… but on the other hand, maybe this readathon is exactly what I need to kick this #readingslump in the ass. Wish me luck! 😅

Lizpixie What Timezone are you in oh leader my leader? I‘m planning on starting my #Scarathlon at the same time as most of our team, we‘re a bit ahead of you guys here in Aus. 13mo
Clwojick @Lizpixie I‘m in EST, but the event can start at 0000 in whatever time zone the participant is in. 🖤 I‘m sure our team will be all over the place lol (edited) 13mo
Andrew65 Brilliant and hope it helps with the reading slump. That was me in June and July. 13mo

3rd book in the Grilled Cheese Mysteries! Sandwich shop-owner Carly is a self appointed murder mystery investigator, which draws her into all manner of trouble and danger…Note the spilled beverage on the shiny floor depicting a skull, and the grilled cheese sandwich made with donut halves!
