Pickpick

Read most of this in one day. I was hooked! Told from the perspectives of three women. Jean is a cold case detective nearing retirement, Peggy is one of the victims and Laura is a librarian with a passion for genealogical research undergoing treatment for breast cancer (Herchenroether is a breast cancer survivor so those scenes are quite visceral). A lot of elements, some working better than others, but a unique debut that will linger.

#bookmail A little crime haul. The Angel Makers is my most anticipated true crime release this year so far. Small Mercies is supposed to be one of Lehane‘s best so can‘t wait. Tagged is a debut that sounds right up my street. One of the blurbs on the back says “Like Tana French meets Ann Patchett.” Yes, please!

batsy Enticing cover for the tagged! 2y

Some fun mail today. Such a lovely cover on this new issue! Tagged mystery/thriller caught my eye in the New and Upcoming section (out May 2). Two women, one a librarian with an interest in genealogy and the other a veteran detective, pair up to investigate a decades-old murder. I like the sound of that!

vivastory It's interesting how genealogy is being used to solve murders. Like with the recent Idaho University murders. 2y
jlhammar @vivastory Yes, I was just reading about that case! So fascinating. 2y
