In this heartwarming novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Danielle Steel, adult siblings find their way back homeand back to each otherafter loss. Preston and Constance Whittier have built a happy life together, with a brood of six children raised in a beautiful historic Manhattan mansion. Now, with a nearly empty nest, its easier than ever for the Whittiers to maintain their tradition of a solo romantic Wintermoon ski trip. But with this years trip comes tragedy, and suddenly the Whittiers adult children find themselves reuniting in the family home without their parents for the first time ever. The oldest, Lyle, is reaching a breaking point in his marriage and must decide whether a divorce would be best for him and his two children. Glorias big job on Wall Street has kept her single at thirty-nine, and growing ever more cynical. The twins, Caroline and Charlie, moved out long ago to start a fashion business that may now be faltering. Benjie, with special needs, is hit hard by the loss of his parents and needs his siblings help. And Annabelle, the youngest, drops out of college and starts to spin out of control. The eldest four are forced to put aside their personal issues and their grief to keep the family together and support each other and their two youngest siblings. Selling the house, along with all the memories that live in its walls, feels like yet another devastating loss. Could there be another way, as unconventional as it seems? In The Whittiers, Danielle Steel delivers an inspiring story about the everlasting bonds of one unforgettable family.

Steel seems to love writing about large families. In this one, Preston and Constance Whittier, parents of 6 adult children, enjoy winter ski trips for just the 2 of them. But this one ends in tragedy and all the children reunite at the Manhattan mansion where they grew up to pick up the pieces…

I mean, it wasn‘t a page turner. More of a solid story, of a quirky family, that was cute and a lovely read from a well respected author.

The Whittiers by Daniel Steel...
I liked the plot but it fell short for me nearly every point. 6 siblings, all young adult to adult, lose their parents in a tragic accident. The family home is quite literally a mansion & it's too much for any one of the kids on their own. Eventually most all of them come home and live together as they each deal with other dramas in their personal lives. Strangely, those other dramas (cont in comments)

TheHeartlandBookFairy seemed to be a bigger issue than the death of their parents. Each sibling has their own mini story going on, and they all support one another beautifully. I love that aspect of the story! This book feels like it had a lot of ingredients that never really came together in a beautiful finished dish. The recipe just didn't work. Not a bad story but definitely not up to what We've come to expect from DS. 2y
