Maureen Fry and the Angel of the North
Maureen Fry and the Angel of the North | Rachel Joyce
5 posts | 5 read
Ten years ago, Harold Fry set off on his epic journey on foot to save a friend. But the story doesn't end there. Now his wife, Maureen, has her own pilgrimage to make. Maureen Fry has settled into the quiet life she now shares with her husband Harold after his iconic walk across England. Now, ten years later, an unexpected message from the North disturbs her equilibrium again, and this time it is Maureen's turn to make her own journey. But Maureen is not like Harold. She struggles to bond with strangers, and the landscape she crosses has changed radically. She has little sense of what she'll find at the end of the road. All she knows is that she must get there. Maureen Fry and the Angel of the North is a deeply felt, lyrical novel, full of warmth and kindness. Short, exquisite, powerful- it is about love, loss, and how we come to terms with the past in order to understand ourselves and our lives a little better.

@TheSpineView #Two4Tuesday

🚗 Yes, I've always used a manual transmission (I drove an automatic once, it was a friend's car, and it was chaotic!!!)
🚙 Tagged, the protagonist makes a road trip across England; if you liked Harold Fry, this is a good sequel..

If you want to play, consider yourself tagged! 🚘

TheSpineView Thanks for playing! 11mo
BethM I occasionally go for the clutch when I‘m driving someone else‘s automatic 😂 11mo

Mehso-so

I loved Harold fry but sadly I didn‘t gel with miserable Maureen , even though she has just cause to be so angry one of the seven stages of grief. Anyway it started well but dragged alittle towards the end for me. It‘s a quick easy read can be done in one sitting . I met the author Rachel Joyce A few years ago at a book event, super lovely lady.

jlhammar I‘ve got this audiobook waiting. I really liked Harold, but I liked the second book with Queenie even more. 2y

“Bottom line Mrs Fry, the woman doesn‘t belong here” another said he wasn‘t racist and he had nothing against the person in question but it‘s time to look after your own” I am so sick of bigoted behaviour and hatred towards migrants and immigrants, human movement makes the world a richer place & is as old as the bible. Anyway problems today caused by UK & USA creating an illegal war in Iraq Wev created it,extreme right wing groups now playing it

This author recommended by a friend. Read this in one sitting. A delightful, light ,very well written story. It‘s the last book in a trilogy. The first has been made into a movie due for release this year staring Jim Broadbent. The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry.

jlhammar I didn‘t know about the Harold Fry movie - exciting! Looking forward to this one. 2y

This is my #goldsborobook copy of this story. In true Kristi Fashion I‘m reading the third in a trilogy and I have to say it stands on its own. So emotional and at times funny read. Highly recommend this one. #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks
