Dr. Bell‘s use of our too frequently concealed history of racism as well as imaginative story telling leads a critical reader to valuable social inspection and introspection. This book belongs in a “best reads” list of the 1619 Project.

pickWonderful book. Although the book explores race through a number of short stories, it took me a while to make it through. There's a heaviness in these stories, even though they are short allegories.
Overall, and heartbreakingly, I agree with the main assertion of the book, which is racism is permanent and we can only temporarily disrupt it rather than eradicate it. A perfect book for the moment we are in (in the U.S.). 5/5.
