bailedThis one just didn't have enough of a hook to make me want to slog through the slow build. The premise of the story is great. Execution, not so much. Also some eye roll on details in the beginning stemming from a man's perspective of pregnancy and birth. I tried to push on because of the positive reviews (made it 28%), but it's just not worth it to me.

This was my first time reading a book by Armando Lucas Correa so i wasnt sure what to expect but i have to say i really loved and truly adored this book especially since it was about 4 Women trying to right the wrongs of their families wrongs 80 years in the making and since this book was named after a poem!!

pickThis is a fascinating historical fiction novel about 4 generations of woman. It was well researched and I learned so much more about such things as the Nazis eugenics program and Operation Peter Pan out of Cuba. The sheer number of characters and the long time span did mean I didn't get quite as attached to the characters as I would have liked, but I still enjoyed the story and being educated while being entertained is a plus every time. 3.75/5

Four women, four stories, four different time periods.
Three of them - Ally, Lilith, Nadine - mothers who find themselves in similar situations - they had to send their daughters away to protect them because of war and prejudice. The fourth is Luna who never married.
The alluring, gorgeous cover adds to the captivating storyline. 4/5

pickThis is really good. It's about a mixed race girl and her mom in 1940s Berlin. And how to make sure the daughter survives being labeled a mischling. But that's the beginning. It's multigenerational and it sort of loops back on itself. Looking at who the monsters are actually and under what circumstances.
