Out of the Clear Blue Sky
Out of the Clear Blue Sky | Kristan Higgins
10 posts | 8 read | 3 to read
From New York Times bestselling author Kristan Higgins comes a funny and surprising new novel about losing it alland getting back more than you ever expected. Lillie Silva knew life as an empty nester would be hard after her only child left for college, but when her husband abruptly dumps her for another woman just as her son leaves, her world comes crashing down. Besides the fact that this announcement is a complete surprise (to say the least), what shocks Lillie most is that she isnt heartbroken. Shes furious. Lillie has loved her life on Cape Cod, but as a mother, wife, and nurse-midwife, shes used to caring for other people . . . not taking care of herself. Now, alone for the first time in her life, she finds herself going a little rogue. Is it over the top to crash her ex-husbands wedding dressed like the angel of death? Sure! Should she release a skunk into his perfect new home? Probably not! But it beats staying home and moping. She finds an unexpected ally in her glamorous sister, with whom shes had a tense relationship all these years. And an unexpected babysitter in, of all people, Ben Hallowell, the driver in a car accident that nearly killed Lillie twenty years ago. And then theres Ophelia, her ex-husbands oddly lost niece, who could really use a friend. Its the end of Lillies life as she knew it. But sometimes the perfect next chapter surprises you . . . out of the clear blue sky.

I really enjoy her writing. The characters were well thought out and had a lot of personality. I didn't want this story to end but was satisfied when it did. I guessed somethings correctly, some not. The only thing that bothers me about this author is that she feels she needs to add "woke" things into it when it doesn't fit the characters overall personality at all. It makes me roll my eyes. Feels forced and out of place. But overall, I LOVE it!!

This book was so much fun to read. What does one do when her husband has left her for a younger richer woman? Lillie comes up with all kinds of ideas. Then that woman gets pregnant and Lillie is the midwife that finds herself delivering that woman‘s baby. My first book by Kristan Higgins and I look forward to reading more of her books.

I so enjoyed this book! On the eve of their son's graduation, Lillie's husband abruptly leaves her to be with the wealthy newcomer in town. One POV is even told by said "other woman", which seemed odd at first and then became super entertaining. Lillie can't help but throw a few hilarious, harmless pranks their way (letting a skunk into their house for one, haha) but ultimately discovers she's way better off. A perfect beachy escape! 4⭐️

I really loved this story of two women and their individual journeys. Our two characters are a nurse/midwife whose husband seeminglyy leaves her out of nowhere and the woman he leaves her for. You will wonder why you are getting the other woman‘s view point, but it is also an amazing journey. Though this may be marketed this as such, this is not a romance. It is really a journey of two women and I loved it. 5⭐️

I preordered this book from Barnes & Noble. I received this book in June and I forgot to post about it on here. I looked through my posts on here because I thought I posted it on here but I realized that I never did. This is the second book I own by Kristan Higgins and I still haven‘t read anything by her. I love this book cover. I don‘t know what this book is about but I‘m looking forward to reading it.

Part 1/2
What a fortuitous (Word of the day! 😉) delight! It was so nice to get lost in these characters' lives and relish their slices of life on the Cape. Quite a few hilarious farcical (Word of the day! 🤣) situations and laugh out loud moments which are infrequent for me! I highly recommend this for anyone wanting to escape the current ugliness in this country.

Well_Read_Redhead Part 2/2 I didn't want this book to end and I already miss the characters! It left an indelible (Word of the day! 😂) impression on me. (Indelible actually IS today's Word of the Day on my app!) 2y
