My Reading Journal
My Reading Journal: A Guided Journal for Kids to Keep Track of Their Reading | Y. Y. Chan
8 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
My Reading Journal is the ultimate journal for kids aged 9+. This reading journal is packed with reading tips and strategies, together with a wide range of reflection tasks and questions to help kids dig deeper into what they are reading, and find meaning and relevance to their own lives. Activities include KWL charts, Venn diagrams, interview questions, diary entries, poster designs, as well as interactive activities with other readers and adults to foster a supportive, encouraging and engaging environment for reading and learning. It includes a reading log to keep a record of what they are reading to track progress, as well as a section for book reviews with different questions and prompts. This is perfect for home-schoolers who need help setting up a regular schedule and plan for improving reading skills at their own pace. It is also great for classroom use with students, encouraging them to set specific reading goals and targets. This will also make a great gift for book lovers and voracious readers, book club friends, librarians, English literature teachers, or aspiring writers. This journal encourages kids to be responsible for their own learning and progress and helps them to develop a regular habit of reading.

Not a bad month for reading, though clearly lots of fantasy escapism. Even though I missed the faculty book club outing to hear Shelby Van Pelt talk, I enjoyed discussing Remarkably Bright Creatures with my sister, who read it with her book club last year.

I finally figured out how to import my Netgalley Reading Journal to the Notability app and how to download the included stickers. I‘ve seen other people online with digital journals and I want to try it out too. I haven‘t done it before. The idea of setting it up is overwhelming me. There‘s so many tabs. I don‘t even know where to start. I will probably use this journal next year because I already have a physical journal I‘m using this year.

Yay! I‘m done filling in my Netgalley Tracker until the Fall when I‘ll probably get approved for more ARCs since I signed up for Fall 2024 ARCs from St. Martin‘s Press and all of their imprints. I‘m looking forward to reading what I want to read for a while instead of priority reads. I‘ve been reading ARCs since January and I need a break. The priority reads take up a lot of time.

She‘s getting full! I‘m excited about how this page is turning out. I had to divide some of the chunky books because I‘m on track to read more than expected this year.

Amiable How do you decide how many books to draw? Is it an estimate based on previous years? Or a stretch goal? I love the way this looks. 13mo
GinaKButler @Liz_M @dabbe Thank you!! 13mo
GinaKButler @Amiable Well, my goal for the year was 75, so I drew out 85 to give myself a little cushion. I‘m definitely going to surpass even that (I‘m on pace to read 95-100 books), so I‘ve been adding a line to the fat ones, creating extra books as I go. I‘m really happy with how it‘s turning out! 13mo

136: the number of books I own that I haven‘t read. I‘m hoping to put a dent in them this year!

Laughterhp Ooh what a great spread! I have all my unread books in an app, but I like the idea of this. I have 260 unread books 😬😬 2y

Lucy_Anywhere I love it 🥰 2y
GinaKButler @Laughterhp Well, you‘ll just need a two-page spread! 😂 2y
GinaKButler @Lucy_Anywhere Thank you for the inspiration! 2y
GinaKButler @5feet.of.fury @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @emz711 @rockpools @wanderinglynn @LeslieO Thanks so much! My goal is to read at least 25 and purge 10 by the end of the year! 2y
staci.reads I thought mine was bad at 71 owned-but-not-read 😂. I love your color coding plan! My goal is minimum of 2 per month from my stacks. I figure that will make a sizable dent in it. 2y
GinaKButler @staci.reads Yeah…I get a little excited when I find hardbacks at thrift stores. My goal to to purge some, too. 😊 2y
Amiable This is so pretty! How long did it take you to lay all of these out? 2y
GinaKButler @Amiable I did it over a few days…my handwriting is downright embarrassing, so I spaced it out. I put the titles in an excel spreadsheet and sorted alphabetically…and then did this in pencil and went over it in pen. The dot grid paper made it easy. 😊 2y

Next year, I‘m hoping to participate in #theunreadshelfproject again. I really like that each month has a theme instead of a prompt and I like that I can even choose my own themes if I want to. For example in the month of January, my theme is to read a book that will be comforting to me. I think this will work out really well for me because I want to read what I own and continue mood reading next year.

My Reading Journal by Y.Y. Chan ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I find this book very useful for kids & a way for parents to spend more time with them. It's a great book for kids to put reading into practice. It‘s fun, filled with activities & rich information that even adults can enjoy, because it can be helpful when writing reviews. Good resource for teaching in class.

JudeCC @mandarchy I think you would like this one, or maybe you can use it in class. It's filled with great info and exercises for the kids! 😃 👍 3y
mandarchy I'll have to take a look at it. 😊 thanks! 3y
