Listen To Me
Listen To Me: The new Rizzoli & Isles thriller | Tess Gerritsen
13 posts | 10 read | 2 to read
'Suspenseful and clever - nobody is who they seem to be in this shocking and fast-paced mystery. Come for Rizzoli & Isles. Stay for an unbeatable read.' KARIN SLAUGHTER Rizzoli & Isles return, in the nail-biting new thriller from Sunday Times bestselling author Tess Gerritsen. The murder of Sofia Suarez is both gruesome and seemingly senseless. Why would anyone target a respected nurse who was well-liked by her friends and her neighbours? As Detective Jane Rizzoli and Forensic Pathologist Maura Isles investigate the baffling case, they discover that Sofia was guarding a dangerous secret -- a secret that may have led the killer straight to her door. Meanwhile, Jane's mother Angela Rizzoli is conducting an investigation of her own. She may be a housewife, not a police detective, but she's savvy enough to know there's something very strange, perhaps even dangerous, about the new neighbours across the street. The problem is, no one believes her, not even her own daughter. Immersed in the hunt for Sofia's killer, Jane and Maura are too busy to pay attention to Angela's fears. With no one listening to her, and danger mounting in her neighbourhood, Angela just may be forced to take action on her own... 'Outstanding - inventive, scary, and funny. Listen to Me is Gerritsen at her best!' KATHY REICHS ___ Praise for Tess Gerritsen: 'Tess Gerritsen's clever plotting and medical knowledge give her thrillers that extra edge. Expect a white-knuckle ride to very dark places.' PAULA HAWKINS 'Suspense doesn't get smarter than this.' LEE CHILD 'Crime-writing at its nerve-tingling best.' HARLAN COBEN 'Baby, you are going to be up all night.' STEPHEN KING 'Gruesome, seductive and creepily credible.' THE TIMES 'Hair-raising, nail-biting stuff.' A beautiful sunny winters day and I get to sit outside and enjoy it. This is only just a pick for me. I loved the characters. The plot not so much. But it was ok. Decided to watch an episode of the TV series. The TV characters seemed nothing like the book characters to me. I remembered that I was never a fan of the series. Going to try one of her stand alone novels next.

Holiday activity, meeting 16 year old grandson in the city for lunch and art gallery visit. Went shopping for his birthday book. Bonus for me , Book shop having EOFY sale. I had to contain myself as I was travelling on the bus. Great kids books to pick from. Tagged book is a first of hers for me.

I think this may be my last of this series. I guessed so much of the plot line and I was just speed reading so I could say, yes Trish you were right 🤷‍♀️

squirrelbrain Don‘t you just hate being right?! (In a thriller, anyway) 🤣 1y
TrishB @squirrelbrain 😂😂 I expect many twists and turns and never to be right! 1y
Andrew65 Excellent 👏👏👏 Some series sometimes can disappoint the further they progress. 1y
TrishB @Andrew65 yes between 10-15 seems to be the crunch time! 1y

This one was kind of refreshing. Very Angela-centric. All the moving parts came together so well in the end.

Finished up this book tonight, and was a little disappointed. There wasn't much of Maura (which actually might have been a good thing), Jane's case was interesting and the end + reveal I enjoyed, but the parts with Angela annoyed the heck outta me. Whenever I saw it was her chapter I already wanted it to be over before reading a single word. Feeling meh really because I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the series.

Whether you are a fan of the series or new to it, you can enjoy this story. Rizzoli returns to investigate a nurse killed by a hammer in her own home. Despite this looking like a home invasion gone wrong, Rizzoli senses something isn‘t as it seems. This is a multi track investigatory novel, which gave me a little bit of a surprise about who has actually killed the nurse. I was on a different track. A solid installment in this series

I‘ve been waiting for 5 years for Rizzoli and Isles to come back, and friends, I was glad to see them. Listen to Me is the ultimate in comfort reading for me. Not the cleverest or more original crime novel you‘ll read this year, but it is a compelling read, adds a bit of depth to central and peripheral characters in this series, and ticked all the boxes that make me love reading Gerritsen‘s work.

💡𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: This latest Rizzoli installment is a proverbial breath of blessed air in the running series, focusing a bit on Angela Rizzoli - retired, bored, kinda-Karening her ‘hood in search of something wrong, marking herself as the local busy body. And Angela is convinced something is wrong. Jane is eye rolling her way through the ordeal with a REAL murder to solve - and this one is a head scratcher. Full details ScrappyMags.com

Publication date July 7 2022

How wonderful it was to be back in the world of Rizzoli and Isles. It was like reuniting with old friends. And I loved how much Angela was featured in the story. She played a big part in this one. Her voice was fun and refreshing.
The central murder case was interesting and kept me guessing.

I received a free copy from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Bookzombie So excited for a new Rizzoli and Isles!! 3y

Even though this is an ARC and not out until July, this was my favorite read of the month.

I read 9 books this month. 3 were good, 6 were average. I recommend Listen to Me, Chunky and The Deep.

I really enjoy this series. This is the thirteenth installment and I feel like it's been a while since one of these came out. This one centers around Angela being a nosy neighbor and Jane doing her normal thing. I find it helps to picture Maura as the author rather than the actress in the TV show. Just a hot tip.
