5 posts | 11 read | 18 to read
As the young Guenevere comes to terms with the violent, sudden death of her mother, she faces the prospect of becoming Queen of the Summer Country with trepidation, but also a fierce determination. As others plot to weaken her powers by seeking her hand in marriage, Arthur, travelling the country seeking to reunite the land his father ruled, arrives in time to take her hand himself. A sumptuous wedding takes place, but immediately after the King and Queen are thrown into turmoil as Arthur's enemies seek to destroy him. Their allies and friends stand firm behind them, not least the heroic knight Lancelot, who goes on to create further turmoil as the great passion of Guenevere's life...

I've read quite a few Arthurian novels recently, and I really enjoy seeing how different authors interpret the story. This was a good one and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Some of my favourite authors for Arthur books. Most are fiction. It would be remiss not to mention Marion Zimmer Bradley whose books I absolutely adored in my teens, but whose private life has pretty much made her an author that most people don't recommend. I'll let you look her up.

tpixie As a teen, I read a lot of Mary Stewart's King Arthur books 7y
TrishB @tpixie me too ! I went through an Arthur obsessive stage so much my daughter's middle name is Avalon 😀 7y
Joanne1 I was too intrigued, looked her up. Argh I can see why you wouldn't recommend her books. 7y

Me: hooray! I'm on vacation and now I can get to all the Christmas prep!! My body: that's cute. I've been sick for two days and can do little more than sleep. Happy to say I FINALLY finished this book today (major reading slump) and enjoyed learning about the legend of Arthur and friends. Those were some twisted characters!

Trying a new period in historical fiction with this one that's been on my bookshelf for far too long.

annahenke Interested in your thoughts! 8y
BeckaroniAndCheese @annahenke I just posted my review. I liked it. Interesting to learn about the legends and this was not the Disney version! I'll definitely be looking for more books on this topic in the future. 8y
