I couldn‘t finish it. There‘s A LOT of dialogue but everyone speaks in a similar language and cadence. And the dialogue isn‘t that enthralling. The fantasy/magic part is what intrigued me to read the book, but it‘s talked about more than shown to us. When we finally get a picture it‘s not that captivating. Had to bail on this one.

The first romance I read for #Swoonathon and our Fountain Flirt book club pick of February. It has a lot of elements I liked- the main character is a romance author who edits her books in her dreams, and then falls for her best friend's younger brother, who ends up dragged into her magical dreams. Parts of it work, parts of it made me roll my eyes. I don't know if I would have finished it if it weren't a book club pick though...

Here's a chance to get a bingo for #Swoonathon- or just for fun.

If you love romance, then you love a trope! Mine is usually Best Friend's Siblings, or Sibling's Best Friend, but I also really love Fake Relationship and Surprise Pregnancy (which I feel was much more common in the 80s and 90s romances), and Enemies to Lovers is almost always good!

I'm not loving the tagged book, but it's Best Friends Sibling, so there's that, I guess.

chasjjlee If you like surprise pregnancy, you should read almost any Jodi Ellen Malpas book. 3y
Nessavamusic Love this! I live friends to lovers & enemies to lovers both are delightful 3y

I had a lot of problems with this one and if it hadn‘t been for book club I would have abandoned it. Overall the writing style was fine, but the story was all over the place.

I liked the magical dreaming aspect, but nothing really became of it (besides adding some humor). Gaia‘s best friend was a terrible. That whole situation drove me nuts - he did not deserve her friendship one bit. Jake was ok, but he had his own issues to deal with. ⬇️

kimmypete1 The thing that drove me the most crazy was at 30% you find out that Gaia has a twin sister she didn‘t know about (honestly I didn‘t think they split up twins, but maybe in South Africa they do) but nothing happens with this until 85%. This could have been a thing, but instead it was all dreaming and Jake and her BFF. 3y
