The concept of a thriller set at a retreat for creatives- writers, artists, dancers- made for a cool concept, but I did have some trouble connecting with the characters.

This was so not the book for me. The writing style grated on my nerves, I found the hippies on the bus to be selfish, entitled asshats, and the only part I enjoyed at all was when Kinsey tried to fake his own death in such a moronic way. I did achieve in picking something unusual for True Crime Book Club, but I truly regret making people buy this book. Maybe if you enjoy the beat poets or were on the bus you'd like it?

Loving this series so far! Especially Superior Glotka. He's grumpy and devious and I am here for him and his schemes. These books are helping fill the holes that George R. R. Martin and Patrick Rothfuss have left in my bookish heart while waiting for them to finish their epic series.

This one won't come out until August, but I devoured it! I really think Hale did a great job of presenting everything in this case, and really focusing on how and why Morgan and Anisa did what they did, while still being respectful to the victim, Payton (at the time called Bella). What happened to Payton was awful, and it's also awful how we treat kids with mental illness, and the whole super predator bs.

I was never able to get into the Night Vale books (probably because I never listened to the podcast) but this is not a Night Vale book. It's a book about a young girl who loves Halloween almost as much as I do. It's creepy and fun, but not scary. And I can't wait to re-read it in October. 🙂

I'm not quite sure I buy the idea of a fat camp happening over the winter holidays, because kids don't get that much time off of school, but strangely that was what I found to be unrealistic and not the idea that weight loss bars were turning kids into zombies. I'm pretty much ready for the zombie apocalypse, and I was definitely more prepared for that than I was for COVID-19.

So far behind on reviews! **Note- there should be a 4th star, but I guess I forgot to edit when I was doing graphics
This is the second of a duology, and I liked it more than the first book, mostly because I was already familiar with the world building. And while there is romance in this fantasy, it's not the focus of the heroine's story, and she doesn't necessarily find her soul mate at 17. Love Havenfall and the Inn. :)

I really love this series, and while I hope there are more books in the future, I loved where this one ended! This time Ellery and Reed have to confront Coben- the man who kidnapped Ellery and made Reed the poster boy for the FBI.
