bailedWell this is a bummer. I should have expected it to be what it is- the kind of fantasy I don‘t like. Which is to say, it‘s a minor string of a story crammed full of battle after battle.
Knowing it‘s based on Vox Machina and critical roll, which is a podcast of years-long Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, I guess I should have known it would be like that. After all that‘s mostly what DND is.
I need more character development and plot, ah well.
pickY‘all! This book was so good! I love the twins so much! And this more than did them justice. It‘s also just an overall fantastic fantasy novel about secrets and family and the lengths you‘ll go to for someone you love.
For those who haven‘t watched critical role or don‘t know what that is the book is still completely accessible to you, despite the Easter eggs and head nods for those who have watched the stream to point at excitedly.
Love the show on prime and found this. It delves into the back story of Vex‘ahlia and Vax‘ildan. This should be a good one.

When one of my favorite bookstores has a “snowday” sale, how am I supposed to resist ordering a couple books? Venkman might be rolling his eyes at my lack of restraint.
pickI loved this. Great adventure, lots of backstory, and all the feels. Even if you're not into Critical Role/Vox Machina, or D&D, if you like fantasy books I think you'll enjoy this one. It is also a very inclusive world as well which is refreshing to see.
pickI love critical role and dungeons and dragons and box machina was my first really enjoyable experience with both. I loved this book and it was like coming home to follow Vax and Vex through an adventure from before they met the others.
What a lovely dedication in Vox Machina: Kith & Kin. I can't wait to get started on this! I bought the hardcover and the audiobook so I can read along as I listen to Robbie, Liam, and Laura narrate. #CriticalRole
