Enough Already
Enough Already: Learning to Love the Way I Am Today | Valerie Bertinelli
14 posts | 10 read | 4 to read
Beloved actress and New York Times best-selling author Valerie Bertinelli returns with a heartfelt look at turning sixty, the futility of finding happiness in numbers on a scale, learning to love herself the way she is today, and tips for a healthier outlook on life. Valerie Bertinelli shares an inspiring blueprint that offers women in midlife support and hope. She shares personal stories that many women will relate to from her past decade: hitting her fifties, taking care of her dying mother, the evolving relationship with her husband, a career change, her relationship with food, and the battle to believe in herself as she is. Despite her success receiving Emmys for her Food Network show and critical praise for her books and cookbook, Bertinelli still judged herself harshly if she gained a pound or showed too many wrinkles. But after her mother died, she found an old recipe box with notes of the strong women that came before her, reminding her that she has to find out who she is and take care of herself. Saying, enough already! Bertinelli set out on a journey to love herself and see that perfection is not the goal; its the joy we can find every day in our lives, our loved ones, and the food we share. Recipes and advice will be sprinkled throughout the book.

I love Valerie, loved One Day at a Time, loved her cooking show… but this just didn‘t work. There were parts that were really engaging and parts that just felt off. Loved the recipes!

Still working on the Lego. I really enjoyed listening to VB talk about her life and the role food played. I‘m happy she has a healthier relationship with it now and that she included some great recipes. I was hungry for most of this book 🤣🤣

wanderinglynn Ooh, that looks awesome! I thought about getting that one. 2y
Soubhiville That‘s so cool! It looks really challenging! 2y
mcctrish @wanderinglynn I hope they make more art sets 🤞🏻🙏🏻 cuz I‘m loving this one and I think they would look cool on my bookshelves 2y
mcctrish @Soubhiville I found the Haunted Mansion harder, I made more errors because there were all these parts that needed to get tucked in places and I was never 100% if I was picking the right spot 🤣 until I got to the next part and realized it needed to go wherever I had already put something 2y

Listening to this on audio ❤️ I loved One Day at a Time so much growing up! Why are we so hard on ourselves? I‘m so sad that she has spent so much time fretting about her weight ☹️ I know I‘m brutal with myself with my middle age weight gain despite knowing that every single one of those chips I have eaten have been well deserved. Just like the bowl I am about to eat 💪🏻

TheBookHippie ♥️ I agree 💯 2y

She and I are just about the same age (62) and I‘ve watched her since I was 15. Listened to this over the last week and loved every minute of it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🎧 Loved it! She read it.

I cried. I could relate to her story. Of course NOT the married to a rock star or mom of an up & coming rock star! She felt very down to earth.

She talks a lot about food & recites a few recipes. ♥️

Her story is relatable at 18 or 60.

She covers One Day at a Time thru Hot in Cleveland, her son, her x-husband (EVH), parents, finding peace with who she is not who she could be.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bklover I definitely want to read this at some point! I grew up watching her and have always been a fan 2y
Twainy @Bklover me too. She talks about her career, her X Eddie Van Halen and her son Wolfe. She narrates. I enjoyed it. She feels genuine. You must listen and get back to me cuz there‘s one really short remembrance about something she saw … last 20% of the book. You‘ll know it when you hear it. 2y
Bklover Oh I will do that! Thanks!! 2y

🎧 I hung out with Valerie Bertinelli for a few days! I really enjoyed her narration. She‘s a likable, relatable, down-to-earth lady who speaks with such deep emotion and respect about Eddie VanHalen and of their son, who is a gifted musician in his own right. This book was not a blockbuster but it was sweet and easy and exactly what I needed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was somehow a book that I'd been waiting for. But I didn't know I was waiting. Through sharing her own struggle to find herself, and her joy, Bertinelli inspired me to think about my own journey and where, and who, I want to be. #11-2022

I found myself sobbing at one stage of the book reading Valerie's heartfelt words about their love for each other and Eddie's tragic passing. I don't think anyone could read this book and not be both moved, inspired and admire Valerie for her bravery in sharing such raw thoughts and emotions. It left me saying "enough already" to myself and wanting to be kinder to myself and others. A great life changing read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
